*DAILY DEW 6TH/NOVEMBER/2021* *KEEPING THE BODY BALANCED* (VI) _Key Bible Text:_ *And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.* (Luke 12:4-5 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ The fear of God must come before, during & after the love of God. Jesus was very clear about who we MUST fear-- God, who has the power to cast into hell! Whoever taught God no longer demand that we should fear him, is on his own. It is a cheap lie to deceive and mislead, no matter how innocently said. Whoever concludes that the love of God and the fear of God contradicts each other is unschooled in the word of righteousness. When Noah, "moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world" he exemplified what the Bible teaches when it says, work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Here is the question that must then be addressed. What about Bible portions that seems to suggest that love of God does not include the fear of God? Let's tackle the most powerful of them all- 1 John 4: 16-21. The chief problem begins when we single out verse 18 and begin to shout and dance with it, without understanding the context of its application. First, read from verses 16 to 21 and ponder on it in the light of all we have shared already on the subject of love and fear of God. Please never take a subject or teaching or topic only from one or two portions of scripture. Rather, look up as many portions as possible that speaks on the subject. Be like the Berean Christians. Thus, relate back to all we have shared since this series began and the Bible portions explained therein. Thus, we must approach 1 John 4:16-21 from a holistic approach. Only then can we understand what is being taught. _MEDITATION:_ *What does it mean to be like Jesus? How does being like Jesus show that we are walking in or working towards perfect love? *DAILY DEW 31ST/OCTOBER/2021* *STARTING UP* _Key Bible Text:_ *For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.* (1 John 5:4 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ The most difficult stage of any new life, career, business, invention and growth generally, is starting up. When you enter an airplane, before it takes off, you'll be asked to fasten your seatbelt because of an altitude the airplane will attain. But after that turbulent period, everything will come back to normal. And this is what happens when you set off to achieve great heights, you'll need hold on through some hurdles, rejections, disappointments, failures etc till after sometime when things will start to work out well. That's life! Unfortunately, in reality, most people are not willing to hold on: they seek for instant results. Some don't have the courage to pull through the start up stage and they just settle for less. Some start and stop, some blame the government, family and friends for not giving them enough support. Most are afraid of failing even before getting started. Overcoming the difficulties associated with the start up stage requires us to have faith, hardwork, confidence and patience. You have to believe in your ideas, goals, plans, career etc. Know that your ideas can change the world. You have to have the faith that things will work out well. If not instantly but soon. *DAILY DEW 30TH/OCTOBER/2021* *CHECKING YOUR SPIRITUAL HEALTH METER* (II) _Key Bible Text:_ *Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.* (Ephesians 6:10-11 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ These “symptoms” come as warnings to us to address the intruder immediately, so that it does not progress into something more serious or shut our systems down immediately. The same way these “warning signs” come to tell us when we’re running on empty, when our God-meter is dangerously low/blinking red. We should not even let it get to this point, because we are to stay constantly filled with the Spirit and in continual communion with God, but in the case that it has/does and we have recognized the problem, the solution is not to stay trapped in guilt and self-loathing. It does no good. The solution is to immediately take up the sword of Spirit - the word of God, step into worship, and put on the garment of brokenness; this is how you put fire on your altar. We are the worst versions of ourselves when we are apart from God. We underestimate the damage we’re capable of, apart from God. So child of God, read your Bible and pray *everyday*. Stay planted in God. Keep that meter full and that battery charged. *MEDITATION* *For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. *DAILY DEW 24TH/ OCTOBER/2021* *A GAMBLER OR AN INVESTOR* _Key Bible Text:_ *Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.* (Galatians 6:7 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ We fail to do a lot of things but we still expect things to work out well, claiming that God will just have mercy on or favour us, that's a gambling spirit. When we ought to pray or read our bible daily, but let other things take that time, and still assume that all will be well, with our spiritual growth, that's a gambling spirit. When we ought to go out and do evangelism with the rest of the church, or even alone, but we allow other activities to take that place, and we just assume that God will understand, that's a gambling spirit. When we ought to save for the rainy day, or read well and prepare hard to pass an exam or test, but we do otherwise, and hope that somehow God will take control, that's a gambling spirit at work. The will of God for you as a son, is that you are wise enough to do all things decently and in order, putting priority in the right things, and taking no responsibility for granted. Are you a gambler or an investor? An investor does what he or she needs to do because of a certain outcome they are expecting. You can't plant laziness and reap prosperity. *DAILY DEW 23RD/ OCTOBER/2021* *Faith And Works* _Key Bible Text:_ *Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.* (Romans 3:20 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ This passage deals with true faith and counterfeit faith. Counterfeit faith is dead (v.17). Why is it dead? It does not have works. And the works James is talking about is works of love (v.15-16). Jesus talks about such faith in Matthew 25 in the parable of sheep and goats. People who enter God’s kingdom don’t just claim to have faith, but demonstrate this faith by compassion and love. True faith results in good works and bears fruit (John 15:5-6). Counterfeit faith is deceptive (v.18). True faith is not just intellectual, theoretical or some kind of feeling. It is accompanied by a transformed life. Even demons believe and fear God. Our pious life, good intentions, religious duty, and church attendance can be deceptive if not accompanied by a transformed heart and life. Jesus says we have to be born again. True faith is illustrated by Abraham and Rahab. In v.21, Abraham was justified by works and in v.24 Rahab was also justified by works. Does this contradict Ephesians 2:8 and Romans 3:20 which says no one will be justified by works? Paul and James are not contradicting each other. Paul is talking about justification and James is talking about demonstration. You cannot be justified by works, rather we are justified by grace alone, through faith alone and in Christ alone. However, this justified faith is never alone, but accompanied, validated and demonstrated by works of love. Abraham believed in the promise of God, and it resulted in his act of offering Isaac on the altar. Rahab believed in the promise of God, and it resulted in providing refuge for the spies and risking her own life. True faith is trusting God’s means to save us through Christ. True faith results in putting our life, hopes, dreams and decisions on the line and choosing to trust and obey God, even when it does not make sense or it's inconvenient to us. MEDITATION: *How do we know if we are being transformed by the gospel? What can be the evidence for our genuine walk with Christ?
