*LIVING A YEAR IN SURRENDER*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive."*
(Genesis 50:20 (NKJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The beginning of the year is the perfect time to pause and reflect—not only to recognize all the reasons we have to be grateful, but also to heal and grow in the year ahead.
While reflecting, we may be reminded of hurt feelings. Rather than sweep those feelings under the rug or let them create bitterness, we can choose the freedom of forgiveness. And the first step toward forgiveness is surrender.
“Surrender†can be one of those words that makes people squeamish, especially when it comes to forgiveness. We tend to equate it with losing a battle—waving a white flag and allowing the enemy to overtake us. But when we surrender to God, we can view it differently.
With God, surrender means being open handed with our lives—even our hurt and pain so that God can heal us from it. He is full of love, mercy, and compassion for each of us. We don’t have to be afraid to give our pain to God because we can trust Him to be tender, and handle our hearts with care.
_MEDITATION:_
*Don’t take the offenses and hurts from last year into this new year. If there’s something you need to forgive, take a moment to pray and surrender it to God. Tell Him you need His help and that you trust Him with the results.*

*Warning Against Oppression*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.*
(James 5:4 (NKJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The Bible is not against the rich or those with means. 1 Timothy 6:10 says the love of money is the root of all evil. Money is not the issue but our heart that uses money to promote ourselves and oppress others is the issue. The Bible warns us against this heart posture which results in selfishness.
How do I know if I have this attitude? How I use my money and how I treat others reveals my heart. Everything we have is a gift from God. It is because of His grace and divine providence. How we look at our possessions and money influences how we live.
If you understand everything is a gift from God, it results in being generous, sacrificial, content and being a good steward. On the other hand, if you think you have earned what you have, if you view that what you have is because of your hard work and achievement, then you become ruthless with money (v.4). In our culture we see people hold out on payments for workers, be stingy with their tips, be calculating with change when dealing with the poor, not sharing resources and under paying people.
The rewards we work for in this world using our strength are no match for the eternal glorious reward that Christ gives. How is it possible to access this imperishable reward? There is no way we can work and earn this reward. This reward is earned by the perfect life of Jesus and His perfect sacrifice on the cross. And this is for those who put their faith in Christ as the One who rewards them instead of seeking their own trophies in this world
_MEDITATION:_
*What is your attitude with regard to your money and possessions? Are you investing in things that corrode and rot, or are you investing in eternal riches?*

*SUBMIT TO GOD*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.*
(James 4:7 (NKJV))
_Bible Insight:_
There is a certain attitude that does not submit to God. And James strongly rebukes this attitude in the passage. James is addressing the attitude that is boastful and arrogant. He calls this evil.
Even though in our culture we don’t like people who boast, all of us boast in our hearts. Boasting reveals what our heart finds confidence and security in. It shows what’s important to us, what we value and what we live for. On the surface it looks like good planning, hard work and being diligent. But deep down in our hearts, it is an attitude that is wise in its own eyes, foolish, arrogant and proud.
This attitude does not recognize that God is sovereign and in control, but instead relies on self-confidence and self-reliance. It is foolish behavior. And this foolishness results in selfish behavior.
James warns us that though we might think we are in control of our lives, the reality is that life is fragile. We are like a mist that appears and disappears. Our life is fleeting. We will be soon forgotten. Nothing we do or keep is forever. It will waste away and rot.
A life that submits to God recognizes this feeble and fleeting nature of life. It is recognized in the transient and temporal nature of earthly pursuits, and seeks and invests in eternal and glorious pursuits.
*MEDITATION*

*WISDOM DURING SUFFERING*
_Key Bible Text:_
*My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.*
(James 1:2â€-‬4 (NKJV))
_Bible Insight:_
If someone were to ask one thing when they face suffering or trial, what would they ask? Maybe they would ask that the suffering end. Or maybe they might ask for the reason behind their suffering. Why this suffering? Why me? In this passage, God desires that we ask for wisdom when we suffer.
We face all kinds of suffering (v.2). Maybe you are going through some kind of trial or suffering right now. Jesus says in John 16:33, that in this world we will have trouble and suffering. This is not something we should be surprised about or resent as followers of Jesus.
But the way we respond to suffering is different from this world. The world hates suffering, and will do their best to prevent suffering or even run from suffering. They grow angry, bitter and upset when they suffer. But knowing that suffering will come and that no one is exempt helps us face suffering without any false hopes but with the truth of God’s word. When you suffer, do you resent it? Does it make you angry with God? Do you have questions about why you suffer?
The Bible does not give us one specific reason why we suffer and we may never know the full reason. But in v.3, it says suffering is a test of our faith. Tests reveal what we have learned. In our culture, we don’t like tests and exams. But this test is a good thing, and it reveals what we have learned about this subject. Suffering reveals what we truly believe in for our hope and strength. Usually suffering makes us angry because it hinders what we want to do, what we set out to achieve, it spoils our plans and ruins what we desire. It reveals where our true hope lies.
How is it possible for us not to stumble during suffering?
We respond in joy. It does not mean we enjoy suffering or we go looking for suffering or just laugh it off. We have the same mind of Christ where He endured the cross for the joy set before Him (Heb 12:12). We respond in joy for what suffering can result in: our perseverance, maturity and wisdom.
*MEDITATION*
*Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.*

*DAILY DEW 29TH/SEPTEMBER/2021*
*Before The Cross: We Are Humbled*
_Key Bible Text:_
*“And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.â€* – (Philippians 2:8)
_Bible Insight:_
Jesus is our ultimate example of humility. As we are sinful, find forgiveness through Jesus, and become disciples, it’s an easy temptation to become prideful in the process. Satan would love nothing more than for God’s children to walk around prideful. God opposes the proud, and gives grace to the humble.
Yes, it’s true that we are forgiven through Christ, but that doesn’t give us a free pass to do anything we want. Likewise, it doesn’t mean that we know it all and that we can look down on others or slander those who reject the Word of God.
If we look to the cross, we see how we can exercise humility towards others. We can avoid pride and love others despite their actions towards us because of Jesus’ love towards us despite our actions towards Him. We are still sometimes sinful and still fall short every other day as believers at times (which makes the cross that much bigger), so we have no right to be prideful towards others or to God.
MEDITATION:
*He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.* (Philippians 2:8 NLT)
