*CALLED UNTO LIBERTY* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family."* (Leviticus 25:10 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Origins or beginnings or roots are very helpful in getting the background or purpose of a matter. Liberty as a concept began with God establishing a period when all properties not belonging to you must be returned and all slaves must be returned to their families and even the land will be allowed to rest from farming. It was that serious.
So all slaves would be allowed to return to their families or be giving full entitlements as free borns. There was this sense and celebration of liberty that was to characterize the entire year.
So when we say liberty, we must think of this freedom from a system that have held sway for all times or almost. It is a freedom from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2 (KJV): *"For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."*
But where there is a freedom from a system of sin, there must be a commitment to a system of righteousness.
How was this liberty secured? Through death of Christ. This death was no ordinary death. It is a death that took into account our sinful lots. In other words, it was a substitutionary death. We had Christ died for us but took profit of his death. *For he that is dead is freed from sin.* (Romans 6:7 (KJV))
And being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (Romans 6:18 (KJV))
Thus the conclusion: For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. (Romans 6:20,22 (KJV))
_MEDITATION:_
*Our liberty in Christ must never be considered a freedom to go live as we please. Rather, it a freedom to come live in the realities of Christ-- something we could never do before even if we had wanted to, assuming we could desire to.*

*CALLED UNTO LIBERTY*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."* (Luke 4:18-19 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
One of the missions of Jesus is *"to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised"*
When you check the similar statement from Isaiah 61:1-2 is says *"to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound"*
Liberty suggests being free from restrictions, not being imprisoned or enslaved, the right to act as one pleases, and anything to make one be free.
In Christ, we are called to liberty, as Christ clearly declared deliverance or freedom or liberty to captives. But question is, captives of who or what?
What we understand by freedom or liberty is key. Sometimes we say we are freed from the law. Sometimes we say we are free from sin. Sometimes we say we are free from Satan. Sometimes we say we are free from guilt. Sometimes we say we are free from human expectations.
Truth is, all of these statements or opinions about liberty are true to a large extent if not completely.
But while we revel in the privilege of our Christ bought liberty we must remember to check if there are limits or expectations that comes with this blood bought liberty.
_MEDITATION:_
*Liberty was bought at a high price by Christ. Although given to us for free but not without some expectations. Selah*

*CALLED UNTO PEACE* (III)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."* (Matthew 10:34 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
One of the statements Jesus made about peace when taken on the surface would almost look like He was not the same Prince of Peace. What did Jesus mean when he said "I have not come to send peace but a sword"?
_Pls take note that reading and studying the bible holistically helps one correctly divide and construe the word of God._
Jesus gave further instructions that shows the meaning of his statement:
*For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.* (Matthew 10:35 (KJV))
This is simply an exception to the general rule of keeping peace. And this is because there are instances when peace may be difficult to keep. And we may even say, there are situations when we must care more about pleasing God than pleasing men in the name of peace.
When Peter and John where faced with the option of either obeying God and preaching Jesus, or stop preaching because of the rebuke of the religious leaders, they openly declared in Acts 4:19 (KJV), *"But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye."*
So this is an example of what Jesus meant. So when in Matthew 10:36, Jesus said, *"And a man's foes shall be they of his own household"* it is because of the same Gospel of Peace. Many have given their lives to Christ, only for their families to deny them and persecute them. In such cases, we must stand with peace with God, rather than peace with men!
_MEDITATION:_
*He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.* (Matthew 10:37-39 (KJV))

*CALLED UNTO PEACE* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."* (Luke 2:13-14 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Will this "vawulence" (violence) generation understand this peace that angels sang about when Christ was born into this world of vice and devices?
When Romans 3:17 says *"And the way of peace have they not known"* that perfectly describes the lots of this generation. Are you an exception?
We can't truly follow Jesus and not be a people of Peace!
To begin with, *"your feet ought to be shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace"* (Ephesians 6:15 (KJV) The gospel is a peace loving, peace pursuing, and peace creating Gospel. First, by the Gospel, we secure peace with God.
By the Gospel, we learn to behave peacefully. So peace is the third item mentioned among the bunch that makes up the fruit of the Spirit. (Gal. 5:22)
This peace is so important to God that we are told it is a mark of godly wisdom. So in James 3:17, we read *"But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, THEN PEACEABLE, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy."*
This perfectly explains why Jesus would rather heal the man who came to arrest him, whom Peter cut off his ear. (Luke 22:51)
It also explains why he would rather leave quietly a town that publicly refused to welcome him, than call down fire to rain judgment upon them as suggested by his disciples. (Luke 9:51-56)

*CALLED UNTO PEACE*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."* (Colossians 3:15 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
PEACE must define every believer in Christ because Peace defines God. Peace is very important to God. Jesus himself is called the Prince of Peace. "Grace" & "love" enjoys so much popularity among many believers, but unto God, "grace" or "love" exist because God values peace. We won't know what God's love looks like, if not for his pursuit and passion for Peace. Little wonder, Jesus shed his blood in pursuit of peace between God and man! (Col. 1:20) #Selah
Romans twice defined God, not only with Grace but "God of Peace" (Rom. 15:33 & 16:20). There are several other references that shows how God loves peace.
Thus it makes perfect sense when Jesus taught us that *"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."* (Matthew 5:9 (KJV))
Like Jesus the begotten of the Father who sought to make peace between man and God, when we too value and pursue peace we register and establish ourselves as sons of God.
We are living in a generation where violence is taken as sports and entertainment. 😥
Have you not noticed how without these: violence, revenge, treachery, betrayal, and such similar vices, we don't have best seller movies and highly rated shows!?
In your own little corner do you value peace or you are like those who say, I don't want peace, the vawulence generation?
_MEDITATION:_
*Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.* (Romans 14:19 (KJV))
