*Suffering For Christ* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens. Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward."* (Hebrews 10:34-35 (WEB))
_Bible Insight:_
In a biographical story of Frederick Douglass, there was an account of Captain John Brown a former military man turned storekeeper, who invited Frederick to his home. The striking thing about Captain Brown was that, though he was white, for several years he lived a restrained lifestyle. He wanted to lead a small group of dedicated men who would live in the Appalachian mountains, induce slaves to escape and then train them for resistance. He believed that was his contribution to the struggle against slavery and for many years sacrificed for it, preparing for a time when he could carry out his plans into reality.
He chose a restrained lifestyle so as to afford to save and amass resources for the struggle ahead. In like manner, Christians are in a spiritual struggle and like Captain Brown, whether we are missionaries or not, whether we are truly challenged or not, we need to live restrained lifestyle so we can keep our eyes on the core goals of the Kingdom of God, by helping those who suffer most for the cause of Christ.
This calls for self imposed "suffering" just like Moses who in Hebrews 11:24-26 (KJV) *"By faith,... refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward."*
Remember, *"Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward"*. In this heavenly race, we must be confident of the great reward ahead of us. For "if we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us" (2 Timothy 2:12 (KJV)) Besides, *"it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing."* 1 Peter 3:17 (KJV)
_MEDITATION:_
*For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.* (2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (KJV) ))

*Suffering For Christ*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Remember how it was with you in the past. In those days, after God's light had shone on you, you suffered many things, yet were not defeated by the struggle.
You were at times publicly insulted and mistreated, and at other times you were ready to join those who were being treated in this way."* (Hebrews 10: 32, 33 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
One of the unpopular doctrines of Christ is suffering with and for Him. This suffering does not refer to poverty or suffering for the wrong one has done. It refers to ill treatments from men and difficult or unpalatable situations that are endured because of one's desire to follow Christ or to obey His word, against popular demands.
Examples include persecution, unjust treatments by higher authorities, discrimination, disrespect, loss of opportunities due to refusal to lower scriptural standards, endurance and long suffering in the face of taunting and daunting situations that if not for the knowledge of Christ one would simply oppose or retaliate or compromise, etc.
These sort of suffering cannot be divorced from the true and consistent believers and followers of Christ.
Unfortunately, we live in a generation, as foretold by prophetic scriptures that, equate prosperity as a sufficient sign of God's seal of approval in the life of a man. As individual believers, one must also consider and pray that God raise men and women who are not given to material things, by making oneself an example in this area.
There is something that helped disciples in the Bible withstand the challenges or sufferings they faced because of their faith in Christ. It is the knowledge of their everlasting possessions and reward in heaven.
Heaven was a real tangible place that existed in their minds and held lots of inspiration for them. Heaven was both present and future for them. Present, because they enjoyed God's presence and strength, and future because this world is not a permanent abode but a temporary one.
_MEDITATION:_

*WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."*
(1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Some beautiful paths in life can not be discovered without getting lost first.
I encourage you this day;
Never Stop Dreaming. Never Stop Believing. Never Give Up. Never Stop Trying. And Never Stop Learning.
I know a number of us wish we could get hold on the clear picture of what the future holds and have every life's puzzle all figured out. But what would be the joy of living if we already know exactly what tomorrow holds?
The most reassuring testament is that we know God's position over our lives and how that He has our interest at heart. Therefore if we steadfastly pursue our God given purpose there's no limit to how far we can go.
In fact, not knowing what tomorrow brings, is actually God's gift of hope to mankind and this hope makes not ashame because God sent his spirit to help us navigate through every unfamiliarity of life.
Every season in our lives comes to prepare us for what is yet to come. May we not be drowned with worry and sorrow in the days of adversity and uncertainties.
_MEDITATION:_
*For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end* (Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV))

*DAILY DEW 11TH/JANUARY/2022*
*THE LUSTS OF OTHER THINGS*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and THE LUSTS of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful."*
(Mark 4:19 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Three things hinder the influence of the word of God in the life of a man: the cares of this world; the deceitfulness of riches; and the lusts of other things. Each of these can choke the word to the point of rendering it useless and fruitless. It is YOUR responsibility to counter the impact of these three hindrances.
Today's focus is the lusts of other things. In previous devotional reflections both the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches has been delt with. (see 29th December 2021 & 4th January, 2022)
When we desire other things above the focus of the Word of God, we cause the word to be choked. For instance, when we lust after fame or desire a relationship with a male or female to the point we lose control, we choke the word of God in us. The word of God which counsels purity or self control becomes a mere distraction because lust have taken control of your mind.
When you desire a job so badly, that you do not mind to reduce or alter your actual age so as to qualify for the job opening, the lust towards that job, have rendered the Word of God that preaches contentment, integrity and honesty to naught in your life.
Watch what you desire badly. Anything you so much desire that makes you lower the standard of the word is choking the word of God in your life.
_MEDITATION:_
*Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.*

*MOTIVATION GONE WRONG*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts."*
(Proverbs 31:6 (NKJV))
_Bible Insight:_
When the monkeys and baboons heard that the man who used to chase them away from the maize field had died, they rejoiced and made merry after which they invaded the farmland with reckless abandon.
Then came the following year they had no maize to eat, it then dawned on them that the dead man was the farmer.
It is usually a challenging thing to learn in the hard way but human minds seem to be built that way.
Growing up we often felt like our guardians were being overly protective and unnecessarily policing, only to grow up and understand better- they were actually helping.
Experience is a divine gift designed to guide the wise but the foolish despise wise counsel.
We live in an age and time when everyone seem to rely on the internet for every puzzle in their lives and this has mass produced untameable mistakes that are detrimental to both social and psychological health of the young ones.
If you abandon the comforter and guardian of your soul which is the Holy Spirit, you may most likely waste your potential youth only to realise at old age that God's word remains the pilot's most trusted guide.
_MEDITATION:_
*And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.*
