*The School of The Spirit*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.*
(2 Timothy 2:3, 5(KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The other day, a young friend of mine from a Nursing School was explaining something that was impressed upon him. He had just finished his exams, after putting in relentless hours upon hours of reading and studying. He spoke of how he would keep reading even when tired and the series of sleepless nights he endured. By the time he was through, this thought dawned on his mind: If believers can put this much energy and discipline in the things of the Spirit, how wonderful it would be and how fruitful believers would be?
As he shared this thought with me, I couldn't help but agree and explain to him, how truly many believers never apply themselves in the things of God as seriously as we do either our academics and/or our businesses. The way and manner a lot of people can become very regimented and meticulous about the affairs of their business or academics just because they are striving for masteries thereat is really commendable. But can we bring the same energy to the school (things) of the Spirit?
Apostle Joshua Selman was credited to have said as follows: *""I'm busy, I'm busy" is a trap from the devil, if police arrests you now, you won't be busy to attend to them. Don't be too busy to attend to the school of the Spirit."*
Until and unless we prioritize the affairs of the Spirit, we will never attain mastery of the ways of God which will even impact every aspect of our lives nor would we be able to please our master as we ought to.
MEDITATION:
*No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.* (2 Timothy 2:4 (KJV))

*REDISCOVERING THE WAY* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Rid yourselves, then, of all evil; no more lying or hypocrisy or jealousy or insulting language."*
(1 Peter 2:1 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
I joined a local church in 2012, and in my usual way, I watched things for the first few weeks before deciding to settle in. Finally, I took the decision to join them and to serve; enrolled in the foundation class and began my journey there. What really thrilled me was their passion for evangelism. This was a local church where a major thing people consider before getting into courtship is passion for ministry. I loved it.
Later, I joined the choir department and I began to play drums alongside another brother. I have some little pro training from classes I took in the past, understand a few rudiments, and so my playing was good enough. I'm rusty now though. Pastoring has stolen that from me. Haha. Now, unknown to me, as I was just busy doing my thing, enjoying the sessions, playing my best, the other drummer was growing envious and jealous. I had no idea! A brother called my attention to it and asked me to be careful but I just didn't see it. But one day, this guy literally dragged with me and got angry and refused to get up from the drum when it was my turn to play. I left him and engaged in the singing sessions. So easy. Me that even while playing drums, you'd catch me singing. It was never about drumming.
After the meeting, I walked up to him to ask why he did that, and he gave some flimsy excuses. Well, it was already clear to me that he was jealous. So, I asked him to let us spend time together in prayer and study, because I know that would heal his mind deeply. I also offered to train him in my own little way because I was obviously playing better. In my exact words to him: 'I won't be here for long, but you will be here, so be sure I'm not trying to take your place'. He agreed but never was available and so the envying continued. He never learnt anything till I left!
Guess what? After my departure from there, another drummer joined the church and perpetually benched him because he was still the amateur player that he was. A competitive mindset is the reason why you'll find yourself envying those you are meant to learn from. There are people who have been placed in your life to help you become a better version of yourself, but you can choose to resent them, get intimidated, or simply yield to learn. Even in the business world, where competition is a thing, people study the models of their competitors! Even in the business world...
I've seen much envy and jealousy play out among believers. There are singers in church who just detest other singers because they seem to possess more skill. There are preachers who detest other preachers because they have a better grasp of scriptures. Some detest those who seem to know how to disciple men. Some even detest others for being prayerful! Someone might think, even in the house of God???? Yes, Galatians 5:19-21 was written to the church - the works of the flesh can be seen among the saints if they do not renew their minds. It takes humility to learn from those who are better and more experienced.

*REDISCOVERING THE MESSAGE* (VIII)
_Key Bible Text:_
*With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.* (Ephesians 4:2-3 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
You see, when people join our local church from other places, due to whatever reasons, I don't instruct them to stay away from their former alliances with their church. I've never seen a need for that! We aren't building a cult group. So, it was a big surprise to me to see people who left our local church to join another, based on my own recommendation when they gained admission into the university, stay away from us totally. I was later to find out that they were instructed to cut ties with their former Pastor and church. In fact, when one of them wanted to come back home after school, the pastor kept saying he cannot return because he has been trained by them. This my folk had to tell him he learnt the word in his home church and joined them based on the recommendation of his pastor. A lot of back and forth, he eventually came back home. I was really amazed.
A friend of mine complained about the same thing - how everyone he recommends a church to eventually cut away and never return even after they are done with their one year NYSC. I can't understand this at all. You've trained someone for over 5 years and then they join another place for just one year and they are already in a fix; they can't return because they now feel they owe their life to the new church.
This friend of mine was asking me whether he should also start implementing such a model and I counselled him against it frankly. You don't need to learn such gimmicks. Just serve Jesus! People come and go. Those who choose to stay voluntarily are those you can call your fellow workers. It shouldn't also stop you from recommending people when necessary. Let them keep building their personal brands while you keep serving Jesus in all simplicity.
Honestly, some Pastors need to re-evaluate why they are doing ministry. Is it still about Jesus or about us? Some models of ministry are just too bad to adopt. In all your learning ministry, don't learn things like this. Think about the BODY OF CHRIST, not the tiny fraction that you are.
*MEDITATION:*
*"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.* (Ephesians 4:4-6 (KJV))

*REDISCOVERING THE MESSAGE* (IV)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise."* (2 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV)
_Bible Insight:_
In ministry, your emphasis will change if you start taking up projects that are beyond your financial capacity; things that burden and put so much pressure on you.
You were steadily doing ministry and raising men till you heard one church pays 1m for venue every Sunday. Boom! You're immediately inspired by their faith not knowing they have steady partners and supporters they've built over the years. You also started with a 300k per Sunday rent even when all the giving that comes to church is not up to 200k per month. But you have faith in the God who did not send you to change venue. That's great.
You heard a church has bought screen for the stage, you also quickly rush to price one. And then you compare your almost red account balance to the cost, but you still leaped in fate, sorry in faith. *Sometimes, we think God is as desperate as we are in funding such non essentials.* You were fine until you saw screen in another man's church!!! Now, because you need to buy the screen at all cost, you start preaching more about money, giving, sowing and reaping, special seeds, honour through seeds, etc.
Man of God, it is not God that is inspiring all these messages and emphasis o. It is the pressure you've put upon yourself! It seems we've forgotten that God is not trying to fund everything we lust after. He is particularly interested in raising men. You don't have to lose your sleep to fund God's work. The venue is not yet full but you just want a very luxurious place that you can't afford at the moment. They've told you to dream wild and God will fund it. They lied to you. *God wants you free of covetousness.* In ministry, growth happens in every area. Some of the people you are coveting used the venues available to them, or the ones they could afford till there was growth numerically and they needed more space. Quit being carnal in your service.
*MEDITATION:*
*There are things you will spend money on at a stage in ministry that clearly shows you have your priorities misplaced. I believe God sends resources for the right things. In fact, I believe it strongly. Which is why I believe the man of God should just ensure to stay faithful to the work and be free of covetousness..*

*Your Body For His Glory* (III)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"This is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God.â€*(1 Thessalonians 4:3-5)
_Bible Insight:_
The SECOND godly problem with masturbation is lust. It is nearly impossible to self-stimulate for sexual pleasure without thinking about a sexual picture whether of a person or an object, maybe. This is lust, and lust is clearly immoral (sin). In fact, nearly everyone who self stimulates, got into masturbation this way - by exposing themselves to erotic material. Jesus said looking (or thinking) at a woman lustfully, is adultery (or fornication) in the sight of God.
You have not touched the woman, but sexual thoughts have started towards her. God sees it as immorality. Therefore that is what it is. Masturbation frequently goes alongside pornography or sexually stimulating pictures somewhere. Almost, if not everyone who masturbates, has a lust problem. That is a sin against God and against one's own body. The release of sexual tension is not in itself, a sin; but masturbation combined with lust, is always sinful. It is granted, that if lust problems and pornography are taken care of, masturbation becomes a non-issue.
Some have asked "what of if i'm thinking about my wife when I do this?"; which has led some to say masturbation is okay when married couples are doing it about, or for each other. Some believe there is no improper sexual act between husband and wife. Well, please consider the point above and the point below.
The THIRD godly problem with masturbation is addiction. Masturbation is highly addictive, and so is pornography. Some cannot do anything until they have done some masturbation. Some look for any opportunity to masturbate. Others see a fine lady and cannot rest until they have masturbated. Anything that controls your behaviour and disrupts your life like that is simply wrong: whether it is tobacco, cannabis, or alcohol, or masturbation. It is a weight, and it is a sin of immorality.
