Proverbs 12:9 (Amplified) Better is he who is lightly esteemed but works for his own support than he who assumes honor for himself and lacks bread. Proverbs 12:9 (CEV) It's better to be ordinary and have only one servant than to think you are somebody and starve to death. KJV used the word "despised" but some other translations used the word "ordinary". The idea is that you can have just one servant and still be ordinary or despised. But another can package themselves to be great, have a lot more servants but actually go hungry or unable to pay them. The wisdom here is one of balance and modesty. Build your life aunthenically. Matthew 7:24-25 teaches that laying the bricks of your life according to the architectural design of God's holy word, is the sure way to a life of eternal relevance and impact!
