_Key Bible Text:_
*Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of FAITH TOWARD GOD.* (Hebrews 6:1 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

Let's look at Hebrews 6:1 again. The term "principles of the doctrine of Christ" catches my attention. It reads in such a way that means a lot. First, there is a doctrine that God have approved. This is the doctrine of Christ. Second, the principles of the doctrine of Christ has a list of subjects, including, repentance from dead works. It also include "faith toward God" among others.

Today, we shall focus on faith towards God. This is a very crucial fundamental principle. Faith towards God is revealed in how we relate to His word. Do we take it to heart? Do we believe it, act upon it, meditate in it, teach it, sing it and above all, uphold it at all times? Faith towards God is not a thing of the heart alone. It is a matter we hold both at heart and in our daily lifestyle. And we must remember that the word of God is Jesus.

Faith towards God is also revealed in how we relate to God as a person. Do we reverence Him? Do we care about what He cares about? Do we shun what he shuns? Do we take seriously the things He takes seriously? Faith towards God is the foundation of our relationship and existence as believers. Without faith in God, we have no Christianity nor Doctrine of Christ.

*The Fundamentals of the Faith*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the FOUNDATION OF REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS, and of faith toward God.* (Hebrews 6:1 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

The teachings of Hebrews 5 emphasized the place of maturity, the sufferings of Christ that proved his obedience, The divine Priest hood of Christ, the practice of godliness and moving from milk to meat. Hebrews 6 takes the emphasis on growth further. Hebrews 6 challenges us to leave the fundamentals of the faith to more deeper teachings of perfection. However, just before we move to the deeper teachings, let's examine the different subjects cited as part of the fundamentals of the faith.

The first on the list is the subject of repentance from dead works. No believer in Christ becomes born again without repentance from dead works. This is why there is so much emphasis for believers to know when they switched from unbelievers to believers. You have to know at the very least the season of your life, where you decided to surrender to Jesus. Until and except you remember that at a point in your life, you repented from the dead works of sin, there is a fundamental issue.

Repentance from dead works is so fundamental even for the believer. For a believer to grow, from time to time, he must repent from certain practices as he receives light on those issues. Repentance is the pathway to salvation. Repentance is also the "continue" in salvation button. This is fundamental. This is foundational. Have you repented from dead works of sin?

*MEDITATION:*

*THE ROUTINE OF PRACTICE*

_Key Bible Text:_
*For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.* (Hebrews 5:13-14 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_
Let's see Amplified version's rendition of today's key text. I pray that something great and life changing will jump at you from reading this passage again and again.

Hebrews 5:13-14:
_[13]For everyone who continues to feed on milk is obviously inexperienced and unskilled in the doctrine of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action), for he is a mere infant [not able to talk yet]!_
_[14]But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law._

It has become a cliche: the saying that practice makes perfect. Practice involves routinely repeating certain processes or steps, over and over again. When we bring practice into the exercise of discerning what is right or wrong, judging based on the word of God, we are taking a more mature approach of things.

This is really what differentiates between those who have taken a liken of milk and those who deal with meats. Milk will always be relatively easy to digest compare to meat that may even contain bones.

How much have you trained your senses and mental faculties to distinguish and discriminate or decipher between the right or wrong? Or are usually too "It doesn't matter-ish" to care? Milk suckers always dismiss a lot of issues, thinking it does not matter. Meat chewers will take time to reflect, ponder, search the word, compare scripture to scripture, listen to pick the intent and spirit of the letter, just to arrive at a level of conviction and consecration.

Milk suckers can't be bothered. Such painstaking routine with such nit picking practice is too much to bear for them. Meat eaters take their time and are not in a hurry to not care to discern.

*MEDITATION:*
*Anyone who has to drink milk is still a child, without any experience in the matter of right and wrong. Solid food, on the other hand, is for adults, who through practice are able to distinguish between good and evil.* Hebrews 5:13-14 (GNB)

_Key Bible Text:_
*For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.* (Hebrews 5:12 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

In my work as a youth sunday school teacher and coordinator, there are persons I have approached asking them to consider taking up the role of youth teachers, and they do nothing but give excuses. They just don't see how that will happen. Some of them go as far as telling you that it is not their calling. Some accept, but never show the required commitment and consistency. Yet some others, go ahead to become dedicated teachers.

Hebrews 5 verse 12 throws a serious challenge at everyone who is an obedient follower of Jesus Christ. Let's consider the Good News version rendition: *"There has been enough time for you to be teachers---yet you still need someone to teach you the first lessons of God's message. Instead of eating solid food, you still have to drink milk."*

It is quite disturbing to see a child who ought by reason of age to be eating some other kinds of solid food, still fixated on milk or liquid food. While there are medical or health conditions or challenge that can explain or warrant that in humans, how do one exactly explain how a child of God will perpetually remain at the level of spiritual babyhood from year to year!?

God is calling his children to grow from being milk dependants to being meat chewers and sharers. The key to achieving this is giving time to the word, prayers and exhortation. Routinely engaging in these activities is a basic requirement to spiritual growth and impact.

*LEARNED OBEDIENCE* (II)

_Key Bible Text:_
*And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him* (Hebrews 5:9 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_
Jesus passed under the tutelage of Mr Suffering to learn obedience. This therefore further qualified him, to become the perfect author of eternal salvation. Hallelujah. He was perfected under the disciplinary hands of Mr Suffering. This perfection, conferred on Christ the title of the author of eternal salvation. That is, salvation that is not made by man and not subject to time.

Jesus "became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." This is very key. Eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him. Eternal salvation to those that obey Jesus. This eternal salvation is not conferred on the disobedient. Jesus learned obedience and became the author of this salvation. So must we too, through obedience, become partakers of this eternal salvation.

*MEDITATION:*

*LEARNED OBEDIENCE*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered* (Hebrews 5:8 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_
If Jesus 'suffered' to learn obedience, imagine how much 'suffering' we would need to undertake to unlearn disobedience and learn obedience? If the one who knew no sin, the one who was without sin, the one true God who came in human form, needed suffering to learn obedience, we really need to understand and undertake this obedience-commanding suffering.

In understanding this suffering, we must refer to the context. The verse before this, stated how Jesus "offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared". This definitely points to one of the things he suffered. It is instructive to note that the trials and suffering Jesus faced, proved his obedience. Obedience is not confirmed in isolation or in a vacuum.

Commands, disciplines, instructions when obeyed and submitted to, reveals obedience. Those who jeered at Jesus, called him names, tested his patience, tried to get him offended, spat on him, ridiculed him, etc were all instrumental to the sufferings of Jesus. These helped him to learn and ultimately proved his obedience to the father. Finally, the fact that He needed to set aside his own will, for the Father's as he prayed, "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." (Matthew 26:39 (KJV))

*FEAR SEEKS HELP* (II)

_Key Bible Text:_
*"Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared"* (Hebrews 5:7 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

Chapter five of Hebrews, skillfully compared the High Priesthood of Jesus with that of Melchizedek. In verse 7, it stated that when Jesus was in the flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death. This passage could have stopped. Instead, it added, Jesus was heard in that he feared. Wow. Jesus feared!? Yes. And for that, He was heard!

Let's back-track. Where or when did Jesus offer such prayers and strong crying? Luke 22:42-44 provides this information, particularly Luke 22:44 (KJV): *"And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."*

It is vital that when we see things that cause us to fear, we take the matter to the one who can help us. If Jesus did this, we too must do likewise. Positive fear or positive response to fear is never giving up simply because of fear but taking the matter to God in prayers and trusting God to provide solution.

*MEDITATION:*
*In the days of His flesh [Jesus] offered up definite, special petitions [for that which He not only wanted but needed] and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him Who was [always] able to save Him [out] from death, and He was heard because of His reverence toward God [His godly fear, His piety, in that He shrank from the horrors of separation from the bright presence of the Father].* (Hebrews 5:7 (AMP))

*FEAR SEEKS HELP*

_Key Bible Text:_
*"Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.* (Hebrews 4:1 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

If you are a King James lover or student, you will see that Hebrews 4, starts with a line about "Fear" and ends with a line about "help". You can actually do some editing and remove all the words and verses in between, and you will be left with *"Let us therefore fear, .... and find grace to help in time of need."* Fear seeks help. Fear not only seeks help, it needs help.

Fear makes us realize we can't do it on our own. We need an external helping hand. Fear is not out of place in the life of the believer. A lot of teachings banish fear completely and demonize fear. There are many instances in scripture calling us to fear, directly and indirectly. Today's key text is one of such.

Fear, in this context drives us to seek help from God. It drives us to realize that the subject matter causing the fear is one that without our reliance on God, we wouldn't be able to handle on our own.

*MEDITATION:*
*Now, God has offered us the promise that we may receive that rest he spoke about. LET US TAKE CARE, then, that none of you will be found to have failed to receive that promised rest.* (Hebrews 4:1 (GNB))

*HELP IS NEAR*

_Key Bible Text:_
*"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."* (Hebrews 4:16 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

There is an important background to Hebrews 4:16. The three verses that come before verse 16 is very instructive. Let's begin with verse 13.

*Hebrews 4:13 (KJV) Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.*

The point of this verse is clear. You can't "form for" God. You can't do cover ups. It's futile. He is everywhere and all knowing. You have nothing to hide. You can hide from your best friend, your parents or your partner or your pastors etc. Hey dear, you can't hide anything from God. This should encourage us to actually draw near to him. Knowing that, after all, He knows it all. Moving from this is verse 14.

*Hebrews 4:14 (KJV) Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.*

We have a great height priest, who have taken the road we are now taking and who saw all the twists and turns but made it to heaven. So we are encouraged to keep holding up and never turn away from the faith. This finally leads to verse 15.

*Hebrews 4:15 (KJV) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.*

This is about the most beautiful of these lines of verses. Our great high priest is neither naive nor "innocent". This means, He knows all there's to know about human feelings, failings and flaws. He knows the great temptations that rocks our boats and resolve. He knows the feeling of wanting to give up or being fed up. This finally brings us to the key text of today.

Based on the foregoing, let us come boldly unto the throne of grace. Let's us not despair. Let us not think that our mistakes or poor choices of the past are too damaging. Rather, let us seek help. There is enough grace and help to go round. There is plenty mercy to serve our messy selves.

*MEDITATION:*
*We have a great height priest, who have taken the road we are now taking and who saw all the twists and turns but made it to heaven unscathed*

*Dangers of Unbelief*

_Key Bible Text:_
*"Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God."* (Hebrews 3:12 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

Unbelief is also known as doubt. Unbelief in something is not believing in that thing. This means there is a passive and negative belief in "unbelief". When someone does not believe in God, it means the person believes in anything else but God. Unbelief towards God is damaging to the soul. Unbelief in the word of God is the basis for lost of faith in God. Unbelief in the Gospel is the greatest sin there is:

*Hebrews 4:2 (KJV) For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.*

Do you have faith in the word of God/the Gospel? Keep holding up. Don't ever stop. Belief is not once and for all. Belief can change or dwindle. If you don't keep at it, you may lose it. If you don't strengthen it, you will weaken it. It is as Jesus said: he who doesn't gather with Jesus is scattering. Likewise, he who doesn't strengthen his faith or belief in God and His word, is diluting his convictions and allowing it to be scattered.

People move from lack of faith to believers in faith. Likewise, people move from having faith to losing it or doubting God or even hating God. It is a two way traffic. You must ensure you are making progress in whatever path you choose.

You make daily progress as you keep practice of the faith. We must be faith or belief practitioners. We don't take it for granted. We take heed. If we don't take heed, we may be taken away, carried away, departing from the living God. God forbid.

*MEDITATION:*
*Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.* (Hebrews 4:11 (KJV))

*REDISCOVERING THE WAY* (III)

_Key Bible Text:_
*"I appeal to you to be shepherds of the flock that God gave you and to take care of it willingly, as God wants you to, and not unwillingly. Do your work, not for mere pay, but from a real desire to serve."*
(1 Peter 5:2 (GNB))

_Bible Insight:_

Sometime in 2005, we invited a preacher to minister in our local church. He was highly recommended and so my Dad reached out to him. He spelled out what he wanted as honorarium. That was strange because up until that time, my Dad accepted invitations to preach without even thinking about honorarium. However, he agreed to his terms and made excuses for him.

On the last day of the meeting, the guest minister suddenly veered off the plan of the meeting and started raising funds. In his words, 'God led him to do that'. When the meeting was over, he was entertained and handed his honorarium which he earlier demanded. Guess what? He wasn't happy. Later that week, the person who recommended him called my Dad and told him that the minister complained bitterly. He said he raised money for the ministry and expected something extra as honorarium. Ah! My naive Dad, who thought he was really being led by the Spirit to raise support for the church, was so shocked.

A few years after, I got to find out that some ministers deliberately raise money in meetings they've been called to preach in just to have a share in the offering. What kind of motive is this? You even lie on the Holy Ghost just because of money?! While some are serving the Lord Jesus, others are only serving their belly. While some are in the ministry, others are simply in business. May we not be led astray by worldy appetites. Ministry is about impacting lives with the gospel. So simple!

And there are those who say they will never go to preach in places where the honorarium isn't juicy and fat. To those ones we say, ANATHEMA (away from us!).

*MEDITATION:*
*It is necessary to stop their talk, because they are upsetting whole families by teaching what they should not, and all for the shameful purpose of making money.* Titus 1:1 (GNB))

*Hold Fast*

_Key Bible Text:_
*But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.*
(Hebrews 3:6 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

To "Hold fast" means to "remain tightly secured" as in the sentence, "the door held fast, obviously locked". To "hold fast" also means, "continue to believe in or adhere to an idea or principle." This example fits, "it is important that we hold fast to the word of God".

In our key text for today, we find the statement, Christ is or was a son over His own house (not another's-- unlike Moses who was to watch over the house or ministry of God). Then the statement extends to this striking revelation: we are the house over which Christ oversees.

The statement moves further, "if we hold fast the confidence" There is an "if" to salvation, my friend. If we don't hold fast, we would cease to be houses over which Christ superintendents. Christ will remain a house master but we won't be that house unless we keep holding fast.

It is key for us, therefore, to remain steadfast in our convictions about the word. If we allow the world, it would water down our convictions with liberalism, feminism, and relativism. If we don't hold fast, we will slip fast. If we slip fast, we will lose out. But thank God, we are not of them that look back. Amen.

MEDITATION:
*Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:* (Hebrews 3:7-8 (KJV))

*Change Your Perspective* (II)

_Key Bible Text:_
*Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.*
(Galatians 5:1 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

A few persons in history, gave this portion of scripture or its like, a literal interpretation. They had such strong perspective of this message, that it was exceptionally inscribed in their lifestyle. One of such outstanding figures was a woman of great capacity and gift, by name Harriet Tubman (a name she picked for herself, after she escaped slavery where she was named Araminta Harriet Ross, and was nicknamed “Minty” by her parents)

Harriet Tubman escaped slavery to become a leading abolitionist. She led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom along the route of the Underground Railroad. Born into slavery in Maryland, Harriet Tubman escaped to freedom in the North in 1849 to become the most famous "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. Tubman risked her life to lead hundreds of family members and other slaves from the plantation system to freedom on this elaborate secret network of safe houses. A leading abolitionist before the American Civil War, Tubman also helped the Union Army during the war, working as a spy among other roles.

After the Civil War ended, Tubman dedicated her life to helping impoverished former slaves and the elderly. In honor of her life and by popular demand, in 2016, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the center of a new $20 bill.

What stands out for me, about this colored and extremely unique lady, whose exploits were well captured in the recent 2019 movie, called _Harriet_ , was her reasoning or perspective:- *"I had reasoned this out in my mind, there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I could not have one, I would have the other"*

MEDITATION:
*The believer is called to live and stand in the divine liberty Christ had won for us through His death and resurrection. We must never allow the little pursuits of this life keep us in bondage to mundane, temporary ambitions that do not profit the soul nor yield eternal rewards*

*Change Your Perspective*

_Key Bible Text:_
*And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.*
(Genesis 45:7 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

Instead of having soldiers in harm's way, targets for Hamas terrorists, the Jaguar will soon be on patrol along Israel's border with Gaza. The Jaguar is the Israel Defense Forces new semi-autonomous, robotic, ground vehicle. The Jaguar has dozens of sensors, a six-wheeled chassis, an electric motor, and a machine gun. This newest addition to the IDF Gaza division was developed over the last year and a half in a cooperative effort between Israel AerospaceIndustries and the IDF's Ground Forces Command.

The robot has high-resolution cameras, sensors, transmitters, and a remote-controlled PA system. The Jaguar operates under human control; however, it can also map out its own route, drive itself to the destination, and avoid any obstacles in its path. Should it fall into enemy hands, the Jaguar can transmit its precise location to a drone that can then destroy it.

"We have led a groundbreaking technological development—an independent robot that reduces the combat soldier's friction with the enemy and prevents risks to human life," Lieutenant Colonel Nathan Kuperstein, the head of Autonomy and Robotics at the IDF's Land Technology Division. "It even knows how to recharge itself—almost like an iRobot."

Ron Castor, a gospel Jewish teacher in Isreal, in a rarely insightful and lovely perspective submitted: *"Hamas is accidentally helping Israel! Hamas has unwittingly helped Israel make peace with many Arab nations. Their terrorism, from rockets to suicide bombers, has forced us to be creative in combating them. That has led to great technology, like the Iron Dome, the Jaguar, and our new laser anti-missile system, that other countries are eager to get."*

Many times in life, we interpret situations wrongly and poorly. Joseph did not see his being sold to Egypt merely as a thing or decision of the wickedness of his siblings. Rather he realized that while he siblings may have intended evil, or acted selfishly, God had better plans and purposes.

MEDITATION:
*So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.* (Genesis 45:8 (KJV))

*The School of The Spirit*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.*
(2 Timothy 2:3, 5(KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

The other day, a young friend of mine from a Nursing School was explaining something that was impressed upon him. He had just finished his exams, after putting in relentless hours upon hours of reading and studying. He spoke of how he would keep reading even when tired and the series of sleepless nights he endured. By the time he was through, this thought dawned on his mind: If believers can put this much energy and discipline in the things of the Spirit, how wonderful it would be and how fruitful believers would be?

As he shared this thought with me, I couldn't help but agree and explain to him, how truly many believers never apply themselves in the things of God as seriously as we do either our academics and/or our businesses. The way and manner a lot of people can become very regimented and meticulous about the affairs of their business or academics just because they are striving for masteries thereat is really commendable. But can we bring the same energy to the school (things) of the Spirit?

Apostle Joshua Selman was credited to have said as follows: *""I'm busy, I'm busy" is a trap from the devil, if police arrests you now, you won't be busy to attend to them. Don't be too busy to attend to the school of the Spirit."*

Until and unless we prioritize the affairs of the Spirit, we will never attain mastery of the ways of God which will even impact every aspect of our lives nor would we be able to please our master as we ought to.

MEDITATION:
*No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.* (2 Timothy 2:4 (KJV))
