*THE WAY OF THE CROSS* (VI)

_Key Bible Text:_
*We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin.* (Romans 6:6 (AMP))

_Bible Insight:_

This idea of separation is brought out by the word Peter uses for death, which occurs only here in the New Testament. It meant to be removed from or to depart, and thus was used euphemistically of death, much as we speak of a departed one. Thayer (Greek lexicon, p. 60) says that Peter means “that we might be utterly alienated from our sins.” My old nature is not eradicated as long as I’m in this body. But it’s power over me has been broken by the cross, so that I can live separately from it.

If you’ve ever jacked up a car so that the drive wheels are off the ground and then stepped on the gas, you know what it means to have a source of power which seems very much alive, but it is rendered inoperative through separation. You can rev up the engine with the car in gear, and the wheels spin like crazy. But the car isn’t going anywhere, because the wheels have been separated from the pavement. That’s one aspect of our union with Christ, that we have been separated from the power of sin, even though it still revs like crazy inside of us.

The second aspect of death involves something I must do, not something that is already done by virtue of my union with Christ. We see these two aspects in Colossians 3:1-5, where Paul says that we have died (3:3) and then turns around and says, “Therefore, put to death ...” (3:5). By this he means that we must take radical action to separate ourselves from various sins that tempt us. It points to the decisive and often painful action of denying ourselves in obedience to God. It must start at the thought level if we want to live in holiness before God.

Peter is referring to the first aspect of death, to the separation that takes place positionally when we trust Christ (“die” is an aorist passive participle whose action precedes that of the main verb, “live”). Having died to sins (in Christ’s death), we are now to go on living to righteousness, which means obedience to the commands of the Bible.

*MEDITATION*
*If you as a believer in Christ are continually defeated by sin, then you need to enter in a deeper way into the meaning of His death on the cross, which separates you from the power of sin. Thus the power of sin caused us to stray continually as sheep; it required death and new life for deliverance.*

*GOD'S PRESENCE. 1*

_Key Bible Text:_
*You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalms 16.11(NIV))*

_Bible Insight:_

Oh how joyous, interesting, good and peaceful it is to be in the presence of the person you love and cherish more than anyone.

The feeling could take away every fear, doubt or any thought that bothers your mind that is giving you restless nights. This feeling could be because you have found someone you want to be with for the rest of your life.

In addition, you will be able to pour out your mind to the person who you so much love and cherish because you know he or she will take up your burden and reason with you, even though he or she cannot solve all but they will still try to put a smile on your face because you love each other.

There are so many things that will happen when you are in the presence of a person you trust and love.

1. You will be free and you will not be afraid of anything knowing you are not alone but someone that will always strive to make you happy is around.

2. Another thing is that you cannot be down so far as your heart is with the person you so much love. It will be that you be at peace and your mind will be at rest, no confusion at all.

3. In such presence, you will remember everything that doesn't really matter and you tell the person all your mind. Because you love the person.

These are all just for human relationship to each other.

Have you really put the same trust in the most High God? He knows everything about you even before you were born. I am sure if you have been in His presence you won't want to leave so quick.

Our Bible text makes it clear to us that God will make known to us the path of life. This is when you are in His presence. If you have not been walking in His presence, then you need to.

*He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.* (1 Peter 2:24 (AMP))

_Bible Insight:_

*2. Through Christ’s death on the cross, those who turn to Him are delivered from the power of sin.*

“... that having died to sins, we might live to righteousness; for by His wound you were healed.” Some have applied the word “healing” to physical healing alone. But that is not in the only appropriate context (neither here nor in Isa. 53:5). The “for” (2:25) is explanatory; Peter is explaining further what he means by the healing effected by Christ’s death: Rather than straying like sheep, as we formerly lived, we now have been turned (passive verb in Greek) to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls. In other words, Christ’s death delivers us from the ongoing power of sin.

There are three facts about the power of sin which we must grasp from these verses: A. THE POWER OF SIN CAUSED US TO STRAY CONTINUALLY AS SHEEP.

“For you were continually straying like sheep” (2:25). Peter uses a verb construction that emphasizes the continual past action of straying. Before we turned to Jesus Christ as our sin bearer, we were characterized by straying from the Good Shepherd, going our own way. We were lost even though we may not have known it. We were in danger of harm and even death, although perhaps we were oblivious to it.

*Sheep aren’t even smart enough to know that they’re lost or to find their own way back to the shepherd if they wanted to. The only way they come back to him is if he takes the initiative in going out looking for them. This is implied in Peter’s use of the passive verb, “have been turned to the Shepherd.”*

*MEDITATION*
*If we have turned to Him, it’s because He came looking for us. If you have not yet come to Him, you cannot save yourself. But the Shepherd is seeking you, even today. He wants to deliver you from the power of sin that causes you to stray from His loving care and protection.*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.* (1 Peter 2:24 (GNB))

_Bible Insight:_

During the Napoleonic Wars, men were conscripted into the French army by a lottery system. If your name was drawn, you had to go off to battle. But in the rare case that you could get someone else to take your place, you were exempt.

On one occasion the authorities came to a certain man and told him that his name had been drawn. But he refused to go, saying, “I was killed two years ago.” At first they questioned his sanity, but he insisted that this was in fact the case. He claimed that the records would show that he had been conscripted two years previously and that he had been killed in action. “How can that be?” they questioned. “You are alive now.” He explained that when his name came up, a close friend said to him, “You have a large family, but I’m not married and nobody is dependent on me. I’ll take your name and address and go in your place.” The records upheld the man’s claim. The case was referred to Napoleon himself, who decided that the country had no legal claim on that man. He was free because another man had died in his place. (In “Our Daily Bread,” Fall, 1980.)

Jesus Christ bore your sin on the cross, but you must take Him up on the offer. If you turn to Him, you will be delivered from the penalty of sin which God justly must impose. That’s what Peter means when he says, “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross.”

*MEDITATION*
*But that’s not the end of the matter. Peter goes on to show that Christ’s death not only delivers us from the penalty of sin, but also from its power:*

*THE WAY OF THE CROSS* (II)

_Key Bible Text:_
*Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.* (1 Peter 2:24 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

*Through Christ’s death on the cross, those who turn to Him are delivered from both the penalty and the power of sin.* (1 Peter 2:24 New American Standard Bible)

What are the benefits that accrue to us from following the cross, or carrying the cross to follow Jesus? In answering this, we need to understand that it is the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross that gives the cross its power.

"1. Through Christ’s death on the cross, those who turn to Him are delivered from the penalty of sin."

This is clearly the meaning of the words, “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree.” By using the word “tree” rather than “cross,” Peter no doubt had in mind Deuteronomy 21:22-23, where it prescribes the penalty for a condemned criminal, that his body be hanged on a tree: “For he who is hanged is accursed of God.” The apostle Paul refers to the same text in Galatians 3:13: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.’” Both apostles are saying that Christ took on Himself as our substitute the condemnation which we deserved.

The holiness and justice of God demand that a penalty be paid for sin; Christ took that penalty on Himself on the cross. By mentioning Christ’s body, Peter calls attention to the fact of His humanity. Since the human race sinned, a member of the race had to pay the just penalty God demands. But only one who was sinless Himself could pay such a penalty, since others would have to pay for their own sin. Jesus Christ, who alone among the human race committed no sin (1 Pet. 2:22; Isa. 53:9), is the only one capable of bearing the sins of the human race. This bearing of sins was a legal transaction in which God the Father transferred to God the Son the penalty we deserve.

That God sent Christ to bear our sins means that God does not just shrug off our sin. We live in a day of loose justice at best. People commit horrible crimes and get off with a slap on the wrist.

*MEDITATION*
*Yet I talk to people all the time, many of them Christians, who think that God’s justice is like that. They shrug off sin as if it’s no big deal to God. They think He will just overlook it. But the Bible is very clear: All sin must be judged! Either your sin is on you and you will bear the penalty; or your sin is on Christ who bore the penalty. Either way, God does not take sin lightly! The just penalty must be paid.*

*WORSHIP GOD FOR WHO HE IS*

Key Bible text:
*I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever.*
(Psalms 145:1 (NLT))

_Bible Insight:_
It’s easy to worship God when we have ample blessings in our lives, and when He says yes to our prayers. We can and we should worship Him for those things! But, first and foremost, we worship Him for who He is.

Did you know that God is omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent? What do these big “omni” words actually mean? Well, omni is a Latin root that simply means “all.” Let’s dive in a little deeper to each of these attributes of God.

*Omnipresent*.

God is “all” present. He is everywhere, all the time, close to everyone and everything. He fills all of heaven and earth. Often as Christ followers, we might pray, “God, please be with me today.” While the petition of God’s presence shows our need for Him, this prayer is actually unnecessary. He is already here and there and elsewhere and all over the place, all the time. What our request should be instead is, “God, please make me aware of your presence.”

*Omniscient*.

God is “all” knowing. In regard to knowledge, there is no limit with God. He has it all, and He knows it all. Literally. There is not a second that goes by where God is not aware of everything. There is absolutely nothing that He should learn or have to think about. He is never caught off guard or surprised by anything, ever. He just knows. Mind blowing, isn’t it? And isn’t it comforting to know that God knows our needs before we even ask?

*Omnipotent.*

God is “all” powerful. All power belongs to God. He possesses it all. He can do anything and everything. He never gets winded, and He never grows weary. His strength is never zapped, and He never has to take a nap. We may see impossible things in front of us, but with God, all things are possible.

It truly is phenomenal to even comprehend just a portion of who He is. That is where our worshiping Him for who He is should come easy. *When we don’t understand something, just worship*

MEDITATION:
*Of the three “omni” words mentioned above, which one fascinates you the most? Spend some time thinking about that facet of who God is, and worship and thank Him for who He is.*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Riding the clouds, he'll be seen by every eye, those who mocked and killed him will see him, People from all nations and all times will tear their clothes in lament. Oh, Yes.* (Revelation 1.7 (MSB))

_Bible Insight:_

*Behold! He appears within the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him. And all the people groups of the earth will weep with sorrow because of him. And so it is to be! Amen.* (Rev. 1:7 (TPT))

Every one with their lifestyle, pleasing to them somehow, some following the traditions, culture, religion and some walking through the street and towns, imagining how their lives will be better and how they will get satisfaction in all they do. People striving to meet up with their perceived life's standard and nobody wants to be left behind. Everyone with his or her ego springing up to show that they can be confident in everything.

Most people forget that we are living to give account of our lives. Some even get a contract with the enemy of their souls and forget the lover of their souls, making them trust the enemy of their souls more than the lover of their souls.

Hmm!!! BEHOLD HE COMETH... days are reducing, time is depreciating, years are passing by, the night is drawing near, teachers have been teaching, preachers are not left behind. Evangelists, pastors and a lot of books talk about it. The great ancient word of life (Holy Bible) speaks expressly and all are still speaking.

Rev.2.11 "Are your ears awake? Listen. Listen to the Wind Words, the Spirit blowing through the churches. Christ-conquerors are safe from Devil-death." (MSB)

You may want to ask, who is coming, who is riding the clouds, I will let you know. *He is the King of kings*, that man that gave His life for you and I. He died for our sins to be forgiven. He is coming back to take anyone who obeys Him and listens to His voice, following His word through the help of the Holy Spirit, He sent to us. Are you one?

Remember He is coming Like a thief in the night (2nd Peter 3:10) and it is better you are alert for His coming. So that you won't be among those to later be lamenting and sorrowful.

Do well to look on God everytime and trust Him always. Stay focused on the heavenly race.

MEDITATION:

*But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world where everyone is right with God. (2Pet.3.13 (NLT))*

_Key Bible Text:_
*So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.*
(1 Corinthians 10:31 (NLT))

_Bible Insight:_
As Christ followers, we are called to fulfill His purpose, not ours. To love Him with our whole hearts, disregarding all else that competes for our devotion. To love others as much as we love ourselves. (And that's a whole lot.) To make His name known, and to build His legacy, rather than ensuring that our name is known.

What if, in the midst of the temptations this world throws at us, we choose not to conform to the standards that everyone else seems to think are normal or, even worse, expected? What if we instead yield our will to what He calls us to do? We’re called to push all of our affection to a loving God who adores us — not to worship the material possessions that this world offers.

This God that we get to spend the rest of our days worshiping is good. His plans are spectacular, and He invites us to join Him. Even the most outrageous and dazzling ideas we have for a good life aren’t even in the same universe as the plans He has for us.

*Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.* (Mark 10:21 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

*What did Jesus mean when He said we have to carry a cross? I've heard people talk about a problem they have and say it's a cross they have to bear, but is this what Jesus meant?*

This question forced me to go into a search of the meaning of the cross. What does the cross of Christ really represent? I strongly perceive that an immediate answer could be given. Some have said that the cross of Christ is not a problem in peoples lives. I recall a dear friend and I was speaking and he said, some people will marry and end up saying their partners have become their cross they have to bear. Well, could that be what the cross really is?

I would think the answer depends. A problem can be a part of the cross of Christ in the life of a believer or just a problem that must nevertheless be dealt with in the way of the cross. What does that mean? It means in the selfless, Christ glorifying way that would ultimately bring glory to God.

Now that we have gotten a short answer to our question, we need to have a long answer as well. For the long answer it will be necessary to use this opportunity to explore the meaning of the cross of christ so we can further understand and live in the way of the cross of Christ.

And this, we shall do if Christ permits.

*NEW WINE*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.* (Isaiah 65.8(KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

We all like new things. When we need a present or gift from anyone, either friends or relative, we don't want anything that has been used before to be given to us. It may reduce the way we care for it or value it and our appreciation for it may not last long because it is not new.

Have you ever thought of using an old bottle or old glass cup to drink? I know you wouldn't enjoy or entertain such thoughts. Anything old will not be as valuable as it used to when it was new. Have you thought of your old clothes when you were still single but now that you are married you almost wonder how you enjoyed using those same clothes?

We don't go back to the old because we all want to look new almost everytime our status changes.

Now that you have known Christ, do you really think of encountering God in new ways or new dimensions as the days go by? Have you been reading books to correct your wrong or old motives & habits? Do you pray that your prayer life will take a deeper dimension? Are you more hungry for more new ways of experiencing God?

These are questions you need to sincerely answer for yourself.

A lot of people have been in Christianity for more than a decade and it is still the old way of seeing God they still cultivate. They are so satisfied with the level of grace they carry, that they do not ask God to bring up new wine out of them.

New wine here signifies *New Power* of God that sicknesses cannot come near or any evil thing cannot move close to. When you are filled with the new wine till your cup overflow, you experience a new level of walk with God.

Are you filled with a new wine? Are you empowered everyday in the journey of faith? Is your prayer life increasing or going down? Ask God today with a sincere and faithful heart to make you better everyday. Ask the for the infilling of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you the more.

Plead the blood of Jesus to sanctify you everytime. Don't forget to meditate on God's word every day and night. Listen to God's leading and look unto Him alone.

New wine is only given you as a new creature in Christ Jesus. Are you one of the new creatures? Search your lifestyle and examine yourself.

*MEDITATION*
*And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wineskins." (Mark.2.22 (NIV))*

_Key Bible Text:_
*And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.* (Revelation 21:3 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

*2. "I will be their God, and they will be my people."*

That God is your God is a big deal. That you are God's person, is the main goal. Being a people of God is one of the salient features of the New Covenant. It comes next to having God's laws in our inward parts.

Indeed a change of nature that conforms us to God's nature as revealed in Christ, can only result in our becoming God's people and God becoming our God. It is a two way relationship. God is ours. We are God's. Hallelujah!

To be God's means to live for His pleasure. To be God's is to exist at His commands and purpose. When we are God's people, we don't live by our own will but we pursue God's will.

On the other hand, when God is our God, we are God's highest priority. God lives for our well being and progress. God is committed to make our battles His. God is committed to be involved in all that concerns us as our God because we are His people.

The challenge is, we don't usually know how to be God's people. God is ours. And he does his part well. But we being God's people,is where we fail. We are called His people, but sometimes behave otherwise. This should not be so.

*MEDITATION*
*Becoming God's own/person/people and God being our God, is an exclusive preserve of the New Covenant. If we are not under the new covenant, we are not God's and God is not ours in this special sense. Only when a person subscribes to the new covenant does he or she become God's person and God his God.*

*THE BETTER COVENANT* (II)

_Key Bible Text:_
*This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them* (Hebrews 10:16 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

*1."I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts."*

The Better Covenant is founded on the promise that God's laws will be inputted in our minds and our hearts will have them written in them. This simply means God promises that under the new covenant there will be a change of nature. This new nature has a new mindset and code inbuilt.

Jeremiah 31:33 (KJV) is the scripture being referenced. *"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts;* and will be their God, and they shall be my people."

God putting His laws in our inward parts and writing it in our hearts is a big deal. It is one of the main difference between the old covenant and the new, which is better. Under the old covenant, men were encouraged to live by laws that were "alien" to them and those who survived did so only by virtue of rituals of sacrifices and offerings made to atone sin which was inevitable.

This change of nature is made possible in and by Christ -- Ephesians 2:10 (KJV) says *"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."*

This should form and inform our relationship with God. We live from the inside out and not the other way round-- we are not shaped by our environment but by our new nature in Christ. Hallelujah

*MEDITATION*
*Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;* (2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (KJV))

*BRIDLE YOUR TONGUE*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You've heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts.* (1Thessalonians.4.11 (MSB))

_Bible Insight:_

*"I am not afraid of anyone. I will say what I see. I like to say my mind so that I will not keep grudges. It is not good if I can't say what is on my mind, I will say it now. I don't want it to decay in my stomach"*

These are what so many people grow with, and what they think is right so as to live freely, but I tell you this has caused so many harms in a family, community, nations and so on. This is simply because, human beings refuse to keep silent and control their thought and tongues about what they see or hear-- especially when they are angry or excited.

It is good to say the truth at all times but wisdom is needed in the way you construct or express yourself and put down your words. Wisdom is needed not only in controlling and constructing what you say, but in determining the right timing to say what you have to say.

And there is a saying that goes, "if a person talks too much he or she will eventually fall into trouble."

Have you been in this category, is it that you must say all what you see or think or feel? Today am letting you know that it will eventually bring you no good but trouble.

The bible makes it clear to us in the book of James.3.6 (KJV) that *"And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. "*

So, you need to control your tongue. You don't have to let out everything you see/feel/think you need to say.

Peradventure, you are still in this mess, God can set you free. Only when you lay everything down at His feet through His son Jesus Christ then you will be free indeed.

You know, this act can lead to eternal damnation and there is no repentance in the grave. Words spoken can either destroy or make/build you.

Why don't you confess now to Jesus and repent from this dead work? It is only Jesus Christ you can tell everything, and get solution instantly depending on how much you trust Him.

The book of James 1:19-20 says, *"My dear brothers and sisters, be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Your anger can never make things right in God's sight."* (NLT)

Only the righteous that will see God at the end of everything here on earth.

*MEDITATION*
*If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is WORTHLESS.* (Jas.1.26 (NLT))*

*THE BETTER COVENANT* (I)

_Key Bible Text:_
*But now, Jesus has been given priestly work which is superior to theirs, just as the covenant which He arranged between God and His people is a BETTER ONE, because it is based on promises of better things.* (Hebrews 8:6(GNB))

_Bible Insight:_

Jesus arranged a BETTER COVENANT between His people (first, those who are Isrealites and second & eventually, those who believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus, i.e. the Gospel) and God. This covenant is based, built on promises of better things. Indeed *If there had been nothing wrong with the first covenant, there would have been no need for a second one.*

But God finds fault with His people when He says, *The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will draw up a NEW COVENANT with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt. They were not faithful to the covenant I made with them, and so I paid no attention to them.*

*"Now", says God, "this is the covenant that I will make with the people of Israel in the days to come, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. None of them will have to teach their friends or tell their neighbors, 'Know the Lord.' For they will all know me, from the least to the greatest. I will forgive their sins and will no longer remember their wrongs.*

Worthy of note and mention, is the promises of better things upon which this new covenant is built: 1. "I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts."; 2. "I will be their God, and they will be my people."; 3. "None of them will have to teach their friends or tell their neighbors, 'Know the Lord.' For they will all know me, from the least to the greatest."; and 4. "I will forgive their sins and will no longer remember their wrongs." Wow.

These promises actually make the new covenant a better one.

We celebrate God for the new covenant!

*MEDITATION*
*By speaking of a new covenant, God has made the first one old; and anything that becomes old and worn out will soon disappear.* (Hebrews 8:13 (GNB))

*WE WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC*

_Key Bible Text:_
*Let them praise his name in the dance: Let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.*
(Psalm 149:3 (KJV))

_Bible Insight:_

Worship is less about an activity and more about a heart posture that holds God in the highest esteem. The place where God is at the top of someone’s priority list.

Typically, we spend most of our time worshiping God through music. And understandably so. We can listen to it in the car, at the gym, and at home. Clearly, music is a popular avenue to worship our Creator.

Worship is a divine appointment with our God. It is both an extravagant expression and a reserved stillness. It is singing, and it is silence. It’s being still and knowing He is God, and it’s celebrating with banners and dancing. It doesn’t matter what type of song we sing. Whether it’s from the most popular group in the worship music scene or a hymn written in the 1700s, the style is not what’s important — the condition of our heart is.

MEDITATION:
*Let’s make worshiping through music a part of our daily routine. We should fill our vacant moments with songs that incite us to worship our amazing God. He is always worthy of it.*
