*PUT DOUBT OUT*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe."* (John 20:25 (KJV))
_Bible Insight_
_Thomas' Doubt_
Thomas, one of Jesus' twelve apostles, had missed the previous appearance of Jesus to the other disciples. When they told him about their encounter with the risen Lord, Thomas was skeptical. He refused to believe unless he saw the physical evidence of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection for himself. Thomas wanted to see the nail prints in Jesus' hands, put his finger into the wounds, and thrust his hand into Jesus' side.
_The Need for Evidence_
Thomas' demand for physical evidence highlights the natural human desire for proof and certainty. We often want to see and touch before we believe. However, this approach can limit our faith and understanding. Jesus would later tell Thomas, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29). This emphasizes the importance of trusting in God's word and promises, even when we don't have physical evidence.
_Lesson for Us_
The lesson from this verse is that faith is not solely based on physical evidence or tangible proof. While it's natural to seek assurance, our faith should ultimately rest on the word of God and the promises of Scripture. We can learn from Thomas' experience to trust in God's sovereignty and provision, even when we don't have all the answers or physical evidence. By doing so, we can grow in our faith and develop a deeper trust in our Lord.
