*DAILY DEW 13TH/JANUARY/2022*
*Suffering For Christ*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Remember how it was with you in the past. In those days, after God's light had shone on you, you suffered many things, yet were not defeated by the struggle.
You were at times publicly insulted and mistreated, and at other times you were ready to join those who were being treated in this way."* (Hebrews 10: 32, 33 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
One of the unpopular doctrines of Christ is suffering with and for Him. This suffering does not refer to poverty or suffering for the wrong one has done. It refers to ill treatments from men and difficult or unpalatable situations that are endured because of one's desire to follow Christ or to obey His word, against popular demands.
Examples include persecution, unjust treatments by higher authorities, discrimination, disrespect, loss of opportunities due to refusal to lower scriptural standards, endurance and long suffering in the face of taunting and daunting situations that if not for the knowledge of Christ one would simply oppose or retaliate or compromise, etc.
These sort of suffering cannot be divorced from the true and consistent believers and followers of Christ.
Unfortunately, we live in a generation, as foretold by prophetic scriptures that, equate prosperity as a sufficient sign of God's seal of approval in the life of a man. As individual believers, one must also consider and pray that God raise men and women who are not given to material things, by making oneself an example in this area.
There is something that helped disciples in the Bible withstand the challenges or sufferings they faced because of their faith in Christ. It is the knowledge of their everlasting possessions and reward in heaven.
Heaven was a real tangible place that existed in their minds and held lots of inspiration for them. Heaven was both present and future for them. Present, because they enjoyed God's presence and strength, and future because this world is not a permanent abode but a temporary one.
_MEDITATION:_
*For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens.* (Hebrews 10:34 (WEB))
