*What is the Gospel?* (4)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures."* (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (KJV))
_Bible Insight_
The Gospel is the message of the death of Christ for our sins, His burial and resurrection.
This atoning death is the basis of our deliverance from the penalty of sin-- death!
This death is substitutionary. Christ died in our place. He was not guilty but he took out conviction and served on our behalf the sentence of sin.
He did not only die. He was buried. The period of burial was the time Jesus settled the issues he needed to settle in the spirit world. He collected the keys of death.
He rose from the death. By his death he paid for sin, and by his resurrection he liveth to intercede for those who believe in Him.

*What is the Gospel?* (2)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and WHEREIN YE STAND; BY WHICH ALSO YE ARE SAVED, IF YE KEEP IN MEMORY WHAT I PREACHED UNTO YOU, unless ye have believed in vain."* (1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (KJV))
_Bible Insight_
To truly receive the Gospel must lead to standing in the Gospel. Standing in the Gospel leads to salvation.
I am however struck by these lines... "IF YE KEEP IN MEMORY WHAT I PREACHED UNTO YOU, unless ye have believed in vain."
1 Corinthians 15:2 Amplified says *"And by which you are saved, if you hold fast and keep firmly what I preached to you, unless you believed at first without effect and all for nothing."*
So they are saved ONLY IF they hold fast and keep firmly the Gospel that have been preached unto them!-- that's absolutely conditional.
So that raises our next important enquiry: WHAT THEN IS THE GOSPEL?
_MEDITATION:_
*YOU CANNOT BE SAVED BY THE GOSPEL AND NOT BE COMMITTED TO PREACHING OR SPREADING THE GOSPEL.*

*What is the Gospel?* (1)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain."* (1 Corinthians 15:1-2 (KJV))
_Bible Insight_
Paul was going to explain or summarize the Gospel and he did that in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
He began by saying "the Gospel which I preached unto you". He said they received it and stood in it.
Who are you preaching the Gospel to? The Gospel is designed to be preached by believers- not just men of God, pastors or evangelists or apostles or prophets or teachers.
Everyone who Christ called is called to preach the Gospel. Until you settle this in your heart, you are not yet a committed disciple of Christ.
The Gospel is not self preaching. The Gospel depends on believers, like you and I, to preach it. Are you preaching the Gospel?
The Gospel is made to be received. Have you received the Gospel? To receive the Gospel means you have positively subscribed to it and you stand in it.
_MEDITATION:_
*If you have received the Gospel, who have you preached the Gospel to so they too can have a chance to receive it?"*

*Those Who Embraced His Instructions* (4)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation."* (2 Corinthians 1:5-6 (KJV))
_Bible Insight_
Speaking of sufferings associated with the preaching of the Gospel, it will be good to take a closer look at these:-
1. *Beating and imprisonment in Philippi* (Acts 16:16-40):
Paul and Silas were beaten and imprisoned for casting out a demon from a slave girl. Despite their sufferings, they sang hymns and prayed, leading to the conversion of the jailer.
More suffering brought about more souls being saved. How we man up or stand strong in the face the suffering for Christ makes the whole difference.
2. *Stoning in Lystra* (Acts 14:19-20):
Paul was stoned by a mob in Lystra and left for dead. However, he survived and continued to preach the Gospel.
But not too fast. Stephen was stoned and death was permitted by God to take him.
Acts 7:58-60 (KJV) And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
3. *Whipping and imprisonment in Jerusalem* (Acts 21:27-36, 22:22-29):
Paul was arrested and whipped by the Roman authorities in Jerusalem. He was later imprisoned for two years.
These were sufferings caused by their faith in Christ and the preaching of the Gospel of Christ.
_MEDITATION:_
*And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.* ( 2 Corinthians 1:7 (KJV))

_Key Bible Text:_
*"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."* Romans 1:16 (KJV)
_Bible Insight_
If excuses would ever do, one man that can be excused for not preaching the Gospel should be Paul.
Before his conversion he had done much damage to the Gospel notoriously. He had jailed and punished Christians for the sole reason that they were Christ believing, Christ preaching believers.
If excuses would look good and acceptable for anyone, it should be Paul.
He could have said something like, "I was ashamed of the Gospel due to my past life even though it is the power of God unto salvation."
Did Paul ever say such a thing? Never! Instead he did the direct opposite. He said repeatedly:
"I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for by what other means can men be saved?"
What's your excuse for not preaching the Gospel again? You're shy? Speak louder! You're are not bold enough? I can't hear you! You're what?... Say again? ...
_MEDITATION:_
*Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God* (2 Timothy 1:8 (KJV)
