*Curses and Blessings*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just."* Proverbs 3:33 (KJV)
_Bible Insight:_
Curses & blessings: there is something they both share in common- you dont always know from face value.
Be careful. Just because one Lagbaja is doing well and everything is making sense in their life, does not mean they are blessed. You can see a Dangote for instance, and say, "Wow see the one the Lord has blessed" but you may be speaking in ignorance.
Be careful. God's blessings are not necessarily measured in material possessions. You may be living in difficulties and pitying yourself, without knowing that God counts you as blessed.
The problem is we want to measure by our human senses. You will be many times wrong. For the one who blesses already concluded that the life of man does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.
Saul was 'reigning' and doing great, persecuting the church, "feeling fly" and looking like the latest warlord in town. Unknown to him, he was living a cursed life -- as everyone who is not saved, by the way.
When he became Paul, the Apostle, his privileges were removed. His guards reassigned. In fact, his story became one of "the hunter is now hunted". He was looking like a struggling fellow. But guess what? That was his blessed state of life.
_MEDITATION:_
*Be careful. That mansion may be the address of the cursed of the Lord. While that "face me and slap you" is the address of God's blessings. Be careful how you conclude on who is blessed and who is favored or who is experiencing grace. Heaven will be full of wonders when the true blessed ones start coming down that glorious isle. Oh, glory! Can't wait!*

*AVOID VIOLENCE*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, for the devious person is an abomination to the LORD, but the upright are in his confidence."* Proverbs 3:31-32 ESV
_Bible Insight:_
God does not approve of violence. He finds the ways of the violent abominable. This means that God does not consider violence a small matter.
The practice of righteousness demands that we say no to violent acts and that we don't envy or commend or consider as enjoyable those who do!
Proverbs 3:31-32 Don't be jealous of cruel people or follow their example. The LORD doesn't like anyone who is dishonest, but he lets good people be his friends. (CEV)
Proverbs 3:31-32 Don't try to be like those who shoulder their way through life. Why be a bully? "Why not?" you say. Because GOD can't stand twisted souls. It's the straightforward who get his respect. (Message)
Proverbs 3:31-32 (KJV) Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.
_MEDITATION:_
*Deep reflection: If God does not approve of violence, is it acceptable to sit and enjoy entertainment videos, movies, etc rich in violence? ?*

*UNPROVOKED HOSTILITY*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm."* Proverbs 3:30 (KJV)
_Bible Insight:_
To start with, Christ is our model. He does not even permit us to respond to hostility with hostility. This point must be recognized.
Proverbs 3:30 Don't argue just to be arguing, when you haven't been hurt. (CEV)
Proverbs 3:30 Contend not with a man for no reason--when he has done you no wrong. (Amplified)
Proverbs 3:30 Do not take up a cause at law against a man for nothing, if he has done you no wrong. (BBE)
Proverbs 3:30 Don't pick a fight without reason, when no one has done you harm. (NLT)
While this advice seems quite commonsensical, many do not follow it.
A lot of people enjoy drama and will rather jump at every opportunity for such.
We need to live simply and with lots of focus on what matters. The rule is, don't provoke a quarel or a fight or a case when there is nothing calling for it.
The important thing here is to really assess situations, and not just on the face value, to be sure there is something serious to be addressed, before you escalate them.

*UNSOLICITED KINDNESS*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee."* Proverbs 3:29 (KJV)
_Bible Insight:_
Unsolicited kindness?
Maybe, more of unwarranted kindness. Kindness without any special reason. That's what God desires from us.
It is not what we owe others on account of what they have done or not done, but what we owe them because of God!
Proverbs 3:29 Don't try to be mean to neighbors who trust you. (CEV)
Proverbs 3:29 Do not contrive or dig up or cultivate evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly and confidently beside you. (Amplified)
Proverbs 3:29 Don't plan anything that will hurt your neighbors; they live beside you, trusting you. (GNB)
A neighbor as far as Jesus is concerned, simply means anyone who comes around you. A passenger, a class mate, a work colleague, your next door tenant, a passerby, etc all pass as your neighbor according to Jesus in the parable of the good samaritan.
To never plan evil against them, also means to never allow evil to come upon them as long as it is within your power to do something about it. This means being kind, being helpful, going out of your way, to ensure their good, and avoid any perceived or possible evil.
Hence, you can call a passerby's attention to his phone or wallet that just fell off his pocket/person unknown to him;
You can warn a road user of an incoming vehicle they are unaware of;
You can help a stranger carry a load or cross the road;
You can assist a neighbour pack in their clothes when the rain comes if they are not in; etc
There are a lot of ways to not devise evil or rather prevent evil from happening to those within your reach.

*INSTANT GOODNESS*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee."* Proverbs 3:27-28 (KJV)
_Bible Insight:_
In the last Word Alive (Bible study session), someone had insinuated during the question and answers session, that you need to hear from God before you give alms to beggars. Of course, that idea was corrected immediately.
You don't NEED to hear from God to give alms. God's position is clear on that. Rather, you may need to hear from God, or rather have a check in your spirit, that restrains you from giving alms in a particular case- which will be an exception to the general rule.
Remember, the same God who asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, also restrained him from carrying on the instructions to the letter.
The need to be good, kind and generous cannot be overemphasized. You don't need to hear from God before you give to those in need or do good towards others. God's word is already clear on the issue. You need obedience & faith.
Hence, generally, as much as lies in you, I.e. when it is in your power, when you can afford it and to the extent that you can accommodate it, DO GOOD to those in need.
Give that alms.
Share that food.
Get that gift and give it out.
Share that time together with someone who's been down.
Pay that visit that's long over due.
Make that call that can brighten a soul.
Once the need or occasion demands it and it is within your power, be ready, to do it.
_MEDITATION:_
*Do all you can for everyone who deserves your help. Don't tell your neighbor to come back tomorrow, if you can help today.* (Proverbs 3:27-28) (CEV)
