*DAILY DEW 30/MAY/2024* *SEVEN THINGS THE LORD HATES* _Key Bible Text:_ *These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him* (Proverbs 6:16 (AMPLIFIED)) _Bible Insight:_ God is Love. For a God who is love, it is important to mark and avoid the things he hates. Proverbs 6:17 A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others], a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 1. PRIDE. God is very very very emphatic about this. One thing he doesn't stomach is people who are proud. What is making you overestimate yourself and underestimate others? Repent! 2. LIES. In a world where a lot of people subscribe to the philosophy that "the end justifies the means", deceit and lying has become what people enjoy doing these days. They want to "cover up", pretend, "package", etc and sometimes they go the extreme length of lying to achieve their aims. We are reminded today, that God hates it! 3. MURDER. This is extreme. Most of us should think we can never kill. But it is good to think of this as Jesus thought of it. How? Mathew 5:21,22 comes to mind. Anger without cause or without restraint is of equal consequences as murder before God. They are always thinking up something cruel and evil, and they stir up trouble. But they will be struck by sudden disaster and left without a hope.* (Proverbs 6:12-15 (Message)) _Bible Insight:_ Lying is the stock in trade of cowards. Deceit is the strategy of evil and cruel people who delight in afflicting others with trouble! Greedy people lie and deceive others to get what they want. It suffice to say that God is the perfect record keeper who knows how to take care of such fellows. They may think that they have gotten away, but sadly, they don't know that self deceit is already leading them to destruction. Avoid the ways of deceivers and liars. Train yourself to be truthful in a world where lying has been normalized and habitualized. Ours is now a world where those who wish to insist on the truth are fast becoming endangered species. Suddenly, everything is gone, as though it had been taken by an armed robber.* (Proverbs 6:10-11 (Message)) _Bible Insight:_ You will not always have that opportunity! No one always has the opportunity to do something! Opportunity is a scare commodity that you dont always get to predict or determine their availability. Whatever you have opportunity to do, don't let it slip through your fingers! Stop sleeping on opportunities! They say POOR means, passing over opportunities regularly! The best model to adopt, is to be on a 24/7 prepared mode to take on opportunities that come your way. Most failures in life are not because of lack of opportunities but because of misused and abused and underused opportunities. By the way, opportunities don't always come in the way you expect. Sometimes, opportunities come disguised as responsibilities and extra work to be done. Vigilance requires having a good sense of what is needed to be done at any given moment. The ants show their diligence or hard work by their planning and preparations for a better tomorrow! Hardwork or diligence is always about doing today what will better your tomorrow. Diligence is taking a pain now, to kill the greater pain of tomorrow. Laziness is avoiding a pain now/today, but storing up a greater pain for tomorrow. Laziness entices by promising present rest and idleness but that turns out to be a big disappointing bubble. Laziness gives you temporary pleasures today but in return you pay more inconvenience or failure or failed plans tomorrow. *DAILY DEW 26/MAY/2024* *GUARDED OBLIGATIONS* _Key Bible Text:_ *My child, suppose you agree to pay the debt of someone, who cannot repay a loan. Then you are trapped by your own words, and you are now in the power of someone else. Here is what you should do: Go and beg for permission to call off the agreement* (Proverbs 6:1-3 (Message)) _Bible Insight:_ The idea is clear. Do not stand in as a guarantor for someone. The only proviso is, if they are 1) Family, and 2) The debt is not something you can't bear if it comes to it. Another one is job guarantor requirements. Make sure you know to a reasonable extent the one you comtemplate to guarantee. Think about it. Why stand as surety for someone you cannot trace or get to pay up their responsibility? It will become a case of the blind trying to help the blind. It is never a good idea. You will run into an avoidable problem and you will be at the mercy of the creditor ultimately. If you are already in this kind of issue, take the next best step, and try to cancel it immediately-- Proverbs 6:4-5 Do this before you fall asleep or even get sleepy. Save yourself, just as a deer or a bird tries to escape from a hunter. Come to think of it, remember to avoid entering situations that will warrant you needing a guarantor. If you dont stand for others, ensure you dont get involved in situations that will require you needing someone else to stand for you! Your ability to "hold yourself", "keep your body under", "zip up" and tarry until marriage where the bed is undefiled, is one of the keys to a successful life after marriage/wedding. Sexual carelessness and "liberality" may lead to some serious depletion when you are finally ready to settle into your home. It also depletes the wine (sweetness and harmony) of your marriage if you indulge in such. And this is beyond the issue of children, because there are many aspects of a married life that requires your "full life" and not your "left over life"! Living by the principle of guarded behaviour necessarily includes guarding against sexual impurity. Everything may look right, feel right, taste nice, and sound nice, but as long as the key of marriage is yet to be locked, don't indulge in such affairs. A highly sexualized society and social media will never kick against sexual activity outside marriage. Instead they will promote it and inspire it. But always remember that the God who created the world, and created man that invented social media and formed society will still judge this world one day! But before then, there is no doubt that the challenges and troubles of this world are rooted in the fact that sexuality is being commonized and made like a playing toy for children.
