Why doth this [man] thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?"* (Mark 2:5,7) _Bible Insight_ Jesus saw the faith of the paralytic man's friends and responded by forgiving the man's sins. This demonstrates Jesus' divine authority and power to forgive sins. It also links sin as a causative factor of sickness. The scribes' reaction to Jesus' statement reveals their understanding that only God can forgive sins. Jesus' claim to forgive sins implies His divinity and oneness with God. Those who do not accept that Jesus is God are missing the point. A man who forgives sins is nothing but God. No man can forgive sin except Christ, the man-God! The connection between faith and forgiveness is evident. Jesus saw the faith of the friends and responded with forgiveness, highlighting the importance of faith in receiving God's blessings.
