*DAILY DEW 20/DECEMBER/2024*
*Peter, the missionary* (4)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee."* (Matthew 16:22 (KJV))
_Bible Insight_
Every missionary, like every soldier, is expected to be ready to die or suffer inconvenience for the cause. Jesus, being the chief of missionaries, laid down this example and principle. Peter, at this point, had not yet learned this principle.
So Jesus began to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. But Peter resisted that line of thinking.
This in turn, provoked the following lines of response from Jesus:-
*Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.*
The rebuke is neither inappropriate nor disproportionate. If you take lightly such matters of self preservation over and above God's will, you have been deceived by the enemy.
The Lord demands that His missionaries live above the fear of death, that we be living sacrifices. No living sacrifice should be AFRAID to be a sacrifice or to live sacrificially!
_MEDITATION:_
*Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.*
