(NIV) Pursue humility. Eschew pride. Pride will lead to disgrace. It is just a matter of time. Wisdom comes from humility. Practice humility. Use every opportunity to master humility. Certain opportunities are more humility boosting than others. When you are maltreated or unjustly accused: Humility can be practiced by not taking it personal. Make excuses for the offender and take initiative to resolve the matter amicably. When you have been insulted: this is another perfect opportunity to handle the situation calmly and graciously. This is a way to boost your humility. Ignore certain disrespect or at least never take it personally. Don't let your position or status become a big deal.
