*DAILY DEW 6/NOVEMBER/2023* *TONGUES* (XI) _Key Bible Text:_ *"And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?"* (Acts 2: 7,8 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ *"...Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?"* When you look at the list of tribes here represented you will realize that this was the entire known world at the time. God was reclaiming the nations of the earth who turned from him at Babel by the gospel. These Jews after salvation were to return to these gentile nations where they were based and take the gospel message with them. Now after they were saved, they stayed a while following the apostles doctrine so as to grow spiritually, but persecution later scattered them and they went back to their own place of domicile among the gentile nations. Not only them but also many Jews who lived and where born in Jerusalem. Acts 2 was a prophetic sign and a fulfillment of a prophecy. God used the language of foreign nations to witness to the entire nation of Israel about their redemption but not all listened. It is a witness against those who despite that manifestation in Jerusalem still didn’t believe. Other tongues are a sign to the unbelieving Jews to draw them close while prophesy serves to believers as a means of edification. So biblical tongues can either be new tongues or other tongues. Whichever it will be in manifestation is as the spirit wills not as we will but both are within the capacities of the Holyghost resident in the believer. _MEDITATION:_ *And Saul was consenting unto his death. *DAILY DEW 5/NOVEMBER/2023* *TONGUES* (X) _Key Bible Text:_ *"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God!."* (Acts 2:4, 11 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Now you will see the intelligence of the spirit in manifesting other tongues in Acts 2 as it fulfills an Old Testament prophecy and was a sign to the unbelieving Jews In Jerusalem who came for the feast. They heard the gospel In other languages alien to their native Jewish tongue showing that God was taken the gospel beyond the shores of Israel and that the gospel will eventually be preached by citizens of those nations to the Jews! Take a look at 1 Corinthians 14:22. And you will agree that tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. Acts 2 was a sign to the Jewish nation. God was saying again by His spirit what he had said before in the law. Only difference was now He was Inspiring believers to prophesy to unbelieving Jews in foreign languages which they spoke having lived and grown up in those gentile nations. *DAILY DEW 3/NOVEMBER/2023* *TONGUES* (VIII) _Key Bible Text:_ *"In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord."* (1 Corinthians 14:21 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Previously we established that there are three adjectival prefixes used where tongues where concerned. They are: 1. NEW TONGUES - "New" being from the Greek “kainos” which speaks to a language unknown to the speaker and his audience. A language known only to God whose meaning can be gotten only by the gift of interpretation 1Cor 14:4-8 2. OTHER TONGUES - This speaks to languages spoken that is unknown to the speaker but known to the audience. The person speaking does so by supernatural ability but the audience hear it naturally. No interpretation is needed for the audience as they hear in their understanding what is being uttered. Acts 2:1-4 3. KINDS OF TONGUES - This is the umbrella description for both kinds of tongues spoken of in 1 Cor 12:4-8. It speaks of other tongues and new tongues. Remember we explained that the KJV translation of “unknown" tongues has the prefix in italics. This means it wasn’t in the original Greek but the translators understood that in context this TONGUES was not earthly as no man understood it +1 Cor 14:4) hence the better prefix would be unknown. *DAILY DEW 2/NOVEMBER/2023* *TONGUES* (VII) _Key Bible Text:_ *"Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy."* (1 Cor 14:1) _Bible Insight:_ Paul is basically saying that DESIRE is all a man with the spirit needs to manifest a spiritual gift. As a result he is exhorting us to desire spiritual gifts and stresses prophecy as he states it brings the most edification in a local church context. Now if all were limited to some gifts, he would not say this at all! He then goes on to state that he wants all to speak In tongues or even better prophesy! *"I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying."* (1 Cor 14:5) So to answer our question. Do all speak with tongues? The answer is NO! But can all speak with tongues? Every believer? The answer is yes! Should they earnestly desire to! For if they have the Holyghost and all gifts are in him then every manifestation is a possibility should they desire it!
