*GUARDED BEHAVIOUR*
_Key Bible Text:_
*My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.* (Proverbs 5:1-2 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
My child, pay attention and listen to my wisdom and insight.
Then you will know how to behave properly, and your words will show that you have knowledge
Regarding discretion means behaving properly. It is a fruit of paying attention to wisdom and receiving understanding.
When you dig deep into wisdom and submit to sound understanding, you will be a person of proper behavior and your words will be like a pot of good soup distributing delicacies and sweet aroma.
If you fail to pay attention to wisdom and insight, when you open your mouth to speak, there will be trouble. And your attitude or behaviour will always provoke burden and concern to those around you.
_MEDITATION:_
*Do you want to be fixed? Get a handle on your hunger for wisdom and insight*

*GUARDED OBEDIENCE*
_Key Bible Text:_
*My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding* (Proverbs 5:1 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Attend & bow (submit) unto God's wisdom.
This word in Proverbs 5:1 must be received or applied as it relates to God's wisdom.
We attend, by making time and mixing the matter with obedience, like where construction workers are mixing sand, cement and water.
In this mixture, each element is important, but without the cement, the mixture becomes like a child's play on the beach's bank.
Obedience is like the cement, without which the word (water) and the attention of time & faith (sand) will not amount to anything.
God builds our lives up as we apply and mix up, sand (ie. time and attentive faith), water (the word), and cement (obedience)
Guard your obedience because it is either you obey God's wisdom or human wisdom. Bow thine ear to God's understanding. Defer to God's wisdom.
_MEDITATION:_
*What or who are you giving your obedience to? The word of God, or worldly wisdom??*

*GUARDED FOCUS* (2)
_Key Bible Text:_
*And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.* (Matthew 14:29-30 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The man with an ungarded focus, will end as the man with a lost focus, unless correction is taken in good time.
But a man with no focus is "better" than a man with a lost focus. The first will hardly know what he lost, the latter will always know and will always regret it.
This means, once you determine your focus, by all means keep to it. Peter will always remember the day he walked on water and wished he never lost focus.
Those who know and believe that Jesus saves, but allow the enemy to tempt them towards backsliding will always be worse than those who never heard the Gospel, talk less of believing it, before they died.
The pain of not guarding your focus is more than the pain of not having a focus. But a life with no focus is not worth living!

*GUARDED FOCUS*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.* (Proverbs 4:25-27 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Life is basically a test of how well you keep your focus and what kind of focus you have.
A dear friend said to me a long time ago, "if you focus on your focus, you will become a focus".
Our world is filled with all sorts of distractions, both negative and positive. So many weights are clinging tightly to us.
If we are going to be known for something, achieve something great, and accomplish God's purposes for our lives, we must
1. Determine what we must focus our lives on, and
2. Be committed in keeping and guarding our focus.
Many students enter school with the hope of graduating with a first class or distinction. They are actually capable of achieving the feat but along the line they lose focus and fail to achieve it.
_MEDITATION:_
*As it is for students, so it is for businesses, career persons, parents, politicians, and anyone. Determine your focus, and guard your focus.*

*GUARDED SPEECH*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.* (Proverbs 4:24 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Proverbs 4:24 (CEV) Never tell lies or be deceitful in what you say.
Proverbs 4:24 (Amplified) Put away from you false and dishonest speech, and willful and contrary talk put far from you.
Proverbs 4:24 (ESV) Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.
Proverbs 4:24 (GNB) Never say anything that isn't true. Have nothing to do with lies and misleading words.
Proverbs 4:24 (NLT) Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.
Again, you must guard your heart. And when you do, you will have a better control of your speech.
Our speech must be guarded. We cannot afford to become accustomed to saying things we don't mean, we don't believe, we don't really approve of, things that are not true.
What of promises and assurances we know we are not likely to keep? What about things you said primarily to lure others, and get them to do what you want without keeping to your own end of the bargain?
_MEDITATION:_
*Let your speech be guarded and seasoned with truth and love*

*GUARDED HEARTS* (2)
_Key Bible Text:_
*But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.* (2 Chronicles 26:16 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Your heart must be guarded at certain critical moments of life.
Some seasons are more likely to get your heart disposition into the wrong street or place.
One of such seasons, is when you have achieved some long awaited feat. Achievements come with accolades. Accolades come with a bloated sense of self importance. This is when your heart may slip off into pride. And you may never notice until it becomes late.
Another season to be wary of, is when you are down, and maybe suffered a setback. Moments like this pushes one's heart to go towards self defeating thoughts. Such moments can make one question God, get angry with God, lose one's mind, or generally become cynical and negative, or slip back into past habits one has repented of.
The third season to take note of, is when everything is "just there". This is when one can also stop being careful to check one's state of heart disposition.
When you think you are fine, because YOU think so, make sure your heart is not leading you on and misleading you.
_MEDITATION:_
*"Psalms 119:9, 11 (KJV) Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."*

*GUARDED HEARTS*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.* (Proverbs 4:23 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Your heart must be guarded. You owe it a duty to yourself, your neighbours, your future, your generation, and your God, to guard your heart with all diligence.
Matthew 15:18-19 (CEV) But the words that come out of your mouth come from your heart. And they are what make you unfit to worship God. Out of your heart come evil thoughts, murder, unfaithfulness in marriage, vulgar deeds, stealing, telling lies, and insulting others.
As powerful as the tongue is, it is what the heart permits that comes from it. It is what the heart digests and accepts that comes from the tongue. The key of the tongue is the heart.
How do one guard one's heart?! 1. Check or correct the focus of your heart. If your affection is on things above, your focus will eventually regulate the culture you imbibe and the things you meditate on.
2. Make a habit of agreeing and believing God's words. This creates a pattern for your heart.
3. Make a habit of self Examination or heart examination. The heart is powerful and should never be underestimated. A consistent check to be sure we are in line with the word is paramount.
_MEDITATION:_
*"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings."* (Jeremiah 17:9-10 (KJV))

*GOD'S WORDS* (3)
_Key Bible Text:_
*For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.* (Proverbs 4:22 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
God's words are medicinal. They have curative and preventing capacities. They make the user, healthy. God's words bring divine healing and divine health.
Those who are ill can be healed when they habitually use God's words.
Those who are not ill can remain healthy when they habitually use God's words.
The illness in question is both physical or medical and spiritual or emotional. One can be sick spiritually or sick physically/medically.
To live healthy in every sense, especially in the real sense, as far as God is concerned, become a user of God's words.
God's words are life enriching. They make life worth living, meaningful and eternally relevant.
God's words are the true yardstick for measuring a life well lived. God's words communicate the essence of life.
_MEDITATION:_
*"Are you a user of God's words? Those who use God's words live a more meaningful and impactful and healthy life."*

*GOD'S WORDS* (2)
_Key Bible Text:_
*My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.* (Proverbs 4:20-21 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Depart.
Keep.
Depart. We are not to let God's word depart from our eyes. This is a call to focusing on God's words. It calls for meditation. It calls for daily reading of the word. It calls for continuous thinking and application of the word.
When we choose to not DEPART from God's words, other things that are not in line with God's words, departs from us. Drawing near to God's words, never letting our eyes depart from God's words, actually forces habits, ways, ideas that are not in line with God's words, to depart from our lives.
Not departing from God's words, forces sin and unrighteousness to depart from us.
Keep. As we do not depart from God's words, we depart from sin. As we depart from sin and anything not pleasing to God, we are keeping God's words.
Keeping God's words equals departing from anything contrary to God's words.
_MEDITATION:_
*"If you are struggling to depart from a bad habit or sin, it is because you are departing from the word of God. Not departing from God's words, causes breaking away from unrighteousness"*

*SHUN INJUSTICE* (2)
_Key Bible Text:_
*For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.* (Proverbs 4:16-17 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
If God is in control, why is evil rampant? Why do good people suffer? Why is there so much pain and confusion and destruction of the innocent?
These are the regular questions you hear from concerned persons.
The answer remains the same. Evil is in this world because men who take pleasure to do evil are in this world.
They don't sleep well, until someone is not well because of them. They have sound sleep when they have dealt wickedly.
They don't like peace, they like violence. The worst part is that, these days, they carry out their evil in disguise and hypocritically. In the public, they make gestures and suggestions of how to deal with evil, but in secret, they continue to sponsor wickedness.
Here is another reason we must never be like them. Evil is evil and the moment we indulge in some degree of it, we are not different from those who go all out in it. And we also become hypocrites when we fault others for the evil they do, while excusing ourselves.
_MEDITATION:_
