The Guilt Trap A client of mine had made a grievous mistake at work that got her fired. For a long time she was trapped by guilt and she constantly put herself down because she couldn't get a job as good as the one she lost. During our sessions, I began to show her that the only reason she was stuck was because she had literally held herself in prison - the guilt trap. I encouraged her to receive the love and forgiveness of God. She began to open herself to God's healing and within a short time, she secured a role that was far better than the one she lost. Note: Guilt is an emotion that is designed to keep you from moving ahead. You need to stop torturing yourself over things you can't change. Maybe you hurt people or made terrible choices in the past, you've punished yourself long enough. You need to understand that holding on to guilt doesn't change the past. You need to let go and forgive yourself, so that you can build the future. You deserve the same measure of forgiveness that God has graciously released to you.
