*DAILY DEW 14TH/JANUARY/2022*
*Suffering For Christ* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens. Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward."* (Hebrews 10:34-35 (WEB))
_Bible Insight:_
In a biographical story of Frederick Douglass, there was an account of Captain John Brown a former military man turned storekeeper, who invited Frederick to his home. The striking thing about Captain Brown was that, though he was white, for several years he lived a restrained lifestyle. He wanted to lead a small group of dedicated men who would live in the Appalachian mountains, induce slaves to escape and then train them for resistance. He believed that was his contribution to the struggle against slavery and for many years sacrificed for it, preparing for a time when he could carry out his plans into reality.
He chose a restrained lifestyle so as to afford to save and amass resources for the struggle ahead. In like manner, Christians are in a spiritual struggle and like Captain Brown, whether we are missionaries or not, whether we are truly challenged or not, we need to live restrained lifestyle so we can keep our eyes on the core goals of the Kingdom of God, by helping those who suffer most for the cause of Christ.
This calls for self imposed "suffering" just like Moses who in Hebrews 11:24-26 (KJV) *"By faith,... refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward."*
Remember, *"Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward"*. In this heavenly race, we must be confident of the great reward ahead of us. For "if we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us" (2 Timothy 2:12 (KJV)) Besides, *"it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing."* 1 Peter 3:17 (KJV)
_MEDITATION:_
*For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.* (2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (KJV) ))
