*DAILY DEW 27/OCTOBER/2023* *TONGUES* _Key Bible Text:_ *"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."* (Acts 2:4) _Bible Insight:_ So what is tongues? Are there diverse manifestations of tongues? Do tongues have just one kind? The first thing to note is that the word “tongues” simply means a language. It is from the Greek “glossa” which in this context means a dialect. Tongues are languages or a dialect which distinguishes one group of people from another. They are a means of distinguishing tribes. Now this distinction occurred first by judgement at the Tower of Babel. Prior to Babel all mankind spoke one dialect. In Genesis 11:1: And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. But in verse 8: So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. So God scattered the language of the peoples as their speaking of the same language aided their unity in rebellion .
