*MORE OF HIM, LESS OF ME*
_Key Bible Text:_
*For I know the plans I have for you,†says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.* (Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT))
_Bible Insight:_
Surrender.
It’s a word that many see in a negative light. A surrender occurs when a person or group has been overpowered. While that’s a true definition of it, there is more to it. To surrender also means “to give up completely or agree to forego especially in favor of another.â€
When we surrender to Jesus, we have the ability to agree to forego in favor of His purpose. We get to choose to be a part of His eternal game plan. Jeremiah 29:11 says that His plans are not harmful, but are good, bring hope, and a bright future.
But we often hold on to our agenda as we attempt to follow Jesus. We don’t want to surrender because we are convinced that our limited vision and wisdom exceeds God’s boundless and foolproof strategy. Our full surrender to Jesus usually boils down to one question:
*How much will be required of me?*
And the answer is simple. *Everything.*
But there’s another question that we don’t ask, but should. *What is a life surrendered to Jesus filled with?* The answer is the same. *Everything.*
His peace that’s impenetrable.
His joy that’s indescribable.
His freedom that’s unexplainable.
His love that’s outrageous.
His mercy that’s generous.
His grace that’s undeserving.
His presence that’s soothing and
His wisdom that’s reassuring.
*MEDITATION:*
*Think about your life. Are you mapping it out on your own or are you seeking God in everything? Think about this as you go through your day.*

*FROM ANXIETY TO PEACE*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.*
(1 John 4:18 (NLT))
_Bible Insight:_
Life is full of uncertainty. I have a natural tendency to worry that something bad is going to happen even if things are going really well. In fact, sometimes I do it more when things are going smoothly in my life. This propensity to assume the worst correlates directly with forgetting God’s goodness and care. You and I must remember that God is always with us, and we will get to spend eternity with Him.
But if we’re honest, eternity can overwhelm us because we are not positive about what Heaven will really be like. Yet, God allowed the apostle John to see and articulate enough to excite and thrill us about what's to come. The new heaven and new earth are unlike anything our humanity can grasp. No more death, sorrow, mourning, or tears. I think it’s safe to say no more anxiety or depression as well. God will be near, and we will forever feel His love and protection because we are His cherished children.
MEDITATION:
*The more we are reminded of God's deep love for us, the less fear’s grip will be able to hold our hearts hostage because His perfect love casts out all fear.*

*BEING IN CONTROL OR TRUSTING GOD*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.*
(Psalms 37:5 (NLT))
_Bible Insight:_
Over the years as I evaluate different things that I get anxious or stressed out about, there is one common thread in my response to them — a desire to be in control. It's as if playing out potential negative outcomes or imagining unsuccessful work projects puts me in the driver's seat. Nothing is going to happen without me being forewarned and prepared to face it.
The problem, however, is that trust and control do not coexist. You can have control or you can have trust, but you can’t have both. This presents a challenge considering that throughout scripture, God's instruction to us is to trust Him. In fact, we often see that God's guidance does not include the final picture nor are all the details known.
Scripture tells us that God desires our trust and dependence on Him along the way. Abraham was instructed to leave his country but not given a specific destination ahead of time. The people of God were told to step into the raging river prior to God parting the waters. Mary and Martha were challenged to trust when Jesus instructed the stone be removed from their dead brother’s tomb.
Evaluate your heart and motives today. How much of your stressing and worrying is an attempt to be in control? Make an attempt today to put your trust in Him again.
MEDITATION (THINGS TO DO DAILY):
*Acknowledge your struggle to Him and declare that you want to trust Him.*
*Stop negative thoughts within 30 seconds of them entering your mind and replace them with healthy thoughts.*

*CONTROLLED ANGER*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.*
(Proverbs 29:11 (NLT))
_Bible Insight:_
Many people think that all anger is sinful, but that’s not true. Anger only becomes sin when it is expressed in an inappropriate way.
Sometimes the most appropriate response to a situation is anger. It can even be an expression of love. In fact, the Bible says God gets righteously angry, and the only reason you're able to experience anger is because you're created in his image.
But there is such a thing as sinful anger. This is when we blow up or clam up. It’s when we threaten, insult, or belittle someone.
While mismanaged anger is a sin, managed anger is an asset because it gives you a clear-headed view of the situation and allows you to respond with God’s love—even if you’ve been wronged.
Because God is for you and not against you, he gives you the ability to choose how to handle your anger. With the Holy Spirit working within you, you can choose a healthy response.
Have you ever been in a heated argument at home, and the phone rang and you answered it by sweetly saying, "Hello"? What just happened? You were able to change your tone instantly because you wanted to.
Proverbs 29:11 says, "Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back" (NLT).
Choosing to get angry is just that—a choice. You’ve probably said at some point, "You make me so mad!" But nobody can control your emotions without your permission. *You can decide beforehand how you will respond and manage your anger.*
Your relationship with Christ will determine how well you master the anger in your life. Even in a crisis, in the most difficult of situations, you can manage your anger with God's love inside you.
*And when anger is managed wisely and appropriately, it produces great marriages, great friendships, great businesses, great leaders, and great progress*
MEDITATION:
*Right now, think of ways you could manage yourself whenever you're angry*

*SURRENDER WHAT YOU CAN'T CONTROL*
_Key Bible Text:_
*You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete.*
(James 2:22 (NLT))
_Bible Insight:_
To make it through times of crisis with your emotional health intact, you’ll need to learn how to control what's controllable and trust God for the rest.
God is active in your mental, spiritual, and emotional health. He wants you to make wise choices based on his guidance from the Bible and through prayer.
And then, when you encounter something out of your control, you can surrender it to God and trust him to work it out for good.
There is a great example of this in the Bible with Abraham: "You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did" (James 2:22 NIV).
It's easy to go to extremes with this. For instance, you can say it’s all up to God and become passive to the point where you do nothing. On the other hand, you can act like God doesn't play a part in your life and assume everything depends on you. *Both extremes are wrong.*
Maintaining good physical health, for example, is about balance. The same is true with emotional health. Find a balance that helps you recognize what’s in your control, and then make wise decisions based on God’s guidance as you read His Word and talk to him in prayer. And, learn to let go of those things that only God can handle.
There are a lot of things in your life you can’t control. You can't control what happens during a pandemic or crisis, and how the government and other people handle it.
*You can't control the circumstances of life, but you can choose how you will respond—and that will make all the difference.* God is always there to help you make that choice.
MEDITATION:
*What are the uncontrollable things in your life that have caused you stress because you’ve been trying to control them?*
*Why not hand them over to God today?*
