*DAILY DEW 20/DECEMBER/2022* *Practical Hints For Evangelism & Missions* (IV) _Key Bible Text:_ *"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."* (John 10:10-11 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ As we continue to reflect on practical hints for missions and evangelism, the following should be emphasized. _4. Be aware of the devil's goal to keep men lost:_ Those who do not believe and receive Jesus are "not okay". They may look okay, be comfortable, have more money than you, be more famous etc but they are not okay-- they are lost! How can someone whom the devil has kept captive and bound, be okay? YOU MUST BE CONVINCED ABOUT THIS! Otherwise, your evangelism and missions awareness will remain lame and weak! 2 Cor. 4:4 & Ephesians 4:17-18 says that the Devil, who is the god of this world, has blinded them, and darkened their understanding, which is why they don't believe and receive Jesus! How can anyone who is blind (spiritually) be okay? If you still think that unbelievers are okay or act that way, then you are not okay! Or are you? _5. Be aware of God's goal to get men saved._ You must be fully aware and fully invested in God's plan to get men saved! The devil strives to keep men lost, Jesus strives to get men saved! On whose side are you? John 10:10 & 2 Cor. 4:6 are clear: Jesus came to give life, and to shine light upon men, so that every darkness holding men bound, can be destroyed! As you reflect on your role in Missions & Evangelism, you must see that every effort made in this direction, automatically aligns you to God & Christlikeness! _MEDITATION:_ *"The Lord is not slow to do what he has promised, as some think. *DAILY DEW 18/DECEMBER/2022* *THE CURRENT LUKEWARMNESS* _Key Bible Text:_ *"I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!."* (Revelation 3:15-16 (NLT)) _Bible Insight:_ The current lukewarmness in many assemblies will not survive the scrutiny of Gen-Z. Real fire, no fluke, is the only thing that will bring these ones to their knees. Spirituality that cannot be gainsaid, mocked, or scorned - that which is fascinating, confounds and dumbfounds scepticism with overwhelming evidences both in word and deed. And by God, we shall serve this and more to this generation and the next. Amen! Whenever I see a video of a church's choir trending because of the 'marlian vibes' and 'leg works', I'm sure to read comments like 'I need to attend this church', 'na this kain church I wan dey attend now', etc. The approach now is to create a Jesus version of the entertainment in the world. Now, that's where we get it wrong - there is no Jesus version. He calls us to something totally different, new, and out of this world. This is why it takes the conviction of the Spirit to convert the hearts of men; not a religious adaptation of worldliness. Only truth sets free! The people we need to keep appealing to in our churches with 'worldly vibes' haven't really been set free and transformed. If you're set free, your taste will change. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age."* (Matthew 28:19-20 (The Message)) _Bible Insight:_ Armed with the conviction true that evangelism is never wasted, another understanding needed to motivate you towards evangelism and missions is as follows. _3. Understand the relationship between evangelism and discipleship_ Evangelism is the process that leads to catching men like fishes, while discipleship is teaching men how to catch fishes. Evangelism is hosting men in the house like visitors; discipleship is making men become bonafide members of the house. Evangelism is teaching others; Discipleship is having others teach. Evangelism is bringing others into the kingdom, but discipleship is teaching others how to bring others into the kingdom of God. In evangelism you are acting like Christ, (who has given us the ministry of reconciliation) but in discipleship you are helping others become like Christ too. True Evangelism should lead to discipleship and true discipleship must bring about evangelism. None is complete without the other. *DAILY DEW 16/DECEMBER/2022* *Practical Hints For Evangelism & Missions* (II) _Key Bible Text:_ *"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."* (2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ Making a conscious effort is required if we must not slide into a state of disinterest in missions and evangelism. As much as we know and agree that missions and evangelism is a necessity, this knowledge of itself will not keep you practicing missions and evangelism! What then will? It is your conscious decision to stay interested and stay active in missions and evangelism that will make the difference. It is this staying interested and practicing missions and evangelism that we shall explore in this series of this devotional reflections. Here are some fundamental truths or facts to keep you motivated and mobilized or equipped about missions and evangelism. _1. Evangelism is never wasted_ You either reap a harvest (Mat 9:37) or You sow a seed that will later be harvested ( Act 7:58). Your going out to practice evangelism/missions will either get you winning souls, or sowing seeds that someone else will later harvest! Just because you preached and nothing happened immediately afterwards does not mean your message didn't achieve anything! So get preaching! Let's take it a step further. Shall we? You build yourself up in the faith in the process. (Eze 3:21; Prov 11:30). It is a spiritual exercise with eternal rewards especially when we are consistent (Hen 4:12; Eph 6:15). You confirm the word of God as His witness (Mat 10:14-15). Hence,the mere act of going out to witness Christ is an automatic plus on your part, whether or not the person preached to repents/believes. What are you waiting for? _2. Understand what the Gospel is not or what evangelism is not._ You need to grasp the simplicity of the Gospel. You need to know exactly what the Gospel is. And what it is not. Same with evangelism or missions. You must know what does not constitute evangelism and what missions is not. The preaching of the Gospel is not necessarily talking about everything else, and making an altar call at the end (without explaining the atoning and substitutionary death of Jesus, his blood shed for the remission of sins, and his resurrection as sure proof of eternal life promised to those who believe). It is not giving fliers alone without preaching (unless that is all the hearer agreed to receive from you and the flyer or rather tract must actually be talking about the need for salvation). And it is not talking just to condemn sinners without showing how to come out of sin. *DAILY DEW 15/DECEMBER/2022* *Practical Hints For Evangelism & Missions* (I) _Key Bible Text:_ *"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."* (John 3:14-15 (KJV)) _Bible Insight:_ _The loss of interest in missions and evangelism_ There appears to be a general loss of interest in the body of Christ on the subject and practice of missions and evangelism. A lot of believers are keen to do a whole lot things, but not evangelism talk less of missions. This is not normal. This loss of interest and zeal in missions and evangelism is nothing but a clear sign of the last days. In the first Apostolic church as witnessed and read from scriptures, it was clear that all believers were indeed candidates of missions and evangelism. The practice of witnessing for Christ (missions & evangelism) among every member of the church, was so prevalent that the first martyr, Stephen, wasn't even a member of the 12 man apostles of Jesus! This is surely a call for every believer to redefine their role in the church and as members of the body of Christ. There is a clear need for every believer to rediscover for their own selves the practice of missions and evangelism. _The necessity of missions and evangelism_ Moses was never going to have a fighting chance to save the day, if he didn't carry out the simple instructions given to him by God: *"Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people."* *"And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live."* Numbers 21:7-8 (KJV) If Moses couldn't save the day if he hadn't obeyed God to lift up the serpent on a pole in the wilderness, even so shall will not save the day, or rather win souls if we do not lift up Jesus before the face of men through Preaching the Gospel (evangelism) And reaching out to the unreached (missions). Evangelism and missions is the way by which we lift Jesus up, for men to hear, see, believe and be saved. Jesus already died on the cross, but untold millions still go into eternity without even being shown the cross of Christ. Who is to blame?
