*WISDOM DURING SUFFERING*
_Key Bible Text:_
*My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.*
(James 1:2â€-‬4 (NKJV))
_Bible Insight:_
If someone were to ask one thing when they face suffering or trial, what would they ask? Maybe they would ask that the suffering end. Or maybe they might ask for the reason behind their suffering. Why this suffering? Why me? In this passage, God desires that we ask for wisdom when we suffer.
We face all kinds of suffering (v.2). Maybe you are going through some kind of trial or suffering right now. Jesus says in John 16:33, that in this world we will have trouble and suffering. This is not something we should be surprised about or resent as followers of Jesus.
But the way we respond to suffering is different from this world. The world hates suffering, and will do their best to prevent suffering or even run from suffering. They grow angry, bitter and upset when they suffer. But knowing that suffering will come and that no one is exempt helps us face suffering without any false hopes but with the truth of God’s word. When you suffer, do you resent it? Does it make you angry with God? Do you have questions about why you suffer?
The Bible does not give us one specific reason why we suffer and we may never know the full reason. But in v.3, it says suffering is a test of our faith. Tests reveal what we have learned. In our culture, we don’t like tests and exams. But this test is a good thing, and it reveals what we have learned about this subject. Suffering reveals what we truly believe in for our hope and strength. Usually suffering makes us angry because it hinders what we want to do, what we set out to achieve, it spoils our plans and ruins what we desire. It reveals where our true hope lies.
How is it possible for us not to stumble during suffering?
We respond in joy. It does not mean we enjoy suffering or we go looking for suffering or just laugh it off. We have the same mind of Christ where He endured the cross for the joy set before Him (Heb 12:12). We respond in joy for what suffering can result in: our perseverance, maturity and wisdom.
*MEDITATION*
*Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.*

*The Advent of the Man Behind the Shadows* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*This is a symbol which points to the present time. It means that the offerings and animal sacrifices presented to God cannot make the worshiper's heart perfect.* (Hebrews 9:9 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
*The Insufficiency of the Old Order*
The old order utilized outward rules to engage the worshipers. Rules touching drink, foods and various purification processes. These are all outward rules, which apply only until the time when God will establish the new order-- which new order, we have since entered!
Christ came as the High Priest of the good things that are already present in this new order. The tent in which He serves is greater and more perfect; it is not a tent made by human hands, that is, it is not a part of this created world but heavenly.
When Christ went through the tent and entered once and for all into the Most Holy Place, He did not take the blood of goats and bulls to offer as a sacrifice; rather, He took His own blood and obtained eternal salvation for us. Hallelujah!!
In contrast with the old order, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a burnt calf are sprinkled on the people who are ritually unclean, and this purifies them by taking away their ritual impurity.
This shows us the amazing power and great accomplishment of the the precious blood of Christ! Christ through the eternal Spirit, offered Himself as a perfect sacrifice to God. His blood has the added benefit of not only ceremoniously and temporarily cleansing us, but it will purify our consciences from useless rituals, so that we may serve the living God.
*MEDITATION*
*For this reason Christ is the one who arranges a new covenant, so that those who have been called by God may receive the eternal blessings that God has promised. This can be done because there has been a death which sets people free from the wrongs they did while the first covenant was in effect.* (Hebrews 9:15 (GNB))

*HEARING GOD* (III)
_Key Bible Text:_
*And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left*
(Isaiah 30:21 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Then I said Chris is there, I would go to him . ..when I got to Chris's house, he also was not there. It was getting dark I said "God, where will I sleep today?" I should have returned home but because there was no transport fare, I could not. Yet I couldn't return to the boys who had begged me to take the twelve naira. So I went and slept somewhere. There was no food for me because nobody was there.
I was scheduled to preach in Katsina-Ala the following day, so I went by faith to stand by the roadside believing that something will happen; but nothing happened. That was because God needed to show me that vain is the help of man. I stood by the road side but no vehicle stopped to give me a ride. The one that eventually stopped took me a short distance and asked for my transport fare. When I said I had no money the driver yelled at me "What do you want me to use to buy petrol? Get down!"
I felt bad and said "God, why is it like this?" He said "You missed my provision for the work. I made a provision of twelve naira for that journey but you missed it because you were looking up to your friends for help". ...God saw me through but I had to repent of my arrogance. I missed my preaching engagement that day. I only managed to get home at 4 p.m. the following day.
A journey of one and a half hours took me one and half days, because I missed the divine consignment, as my eyes were fixed on men.
The End.
MEDITATION:
*"As we step into this new month, may it signal a new season of hearing and depending on God in Jesus name. Amen"*

*DAILY DEW 24TH/SEPTEMBER/2021*
*THE WAY OF THE CROSS* (VII)
_Key Bible Text:_
*For you were going astray like [so many] sheep, but now you have come back to the Shepherd and Guardian (the Bishop) of your souls. [Isa. 53:5, 6.].* (1 Peter 2:25 (AMP))
_Bible Insight:_
*C. THE POWER OF SIN REQUIRES THE ONGOING CARE OF OUR GREAT SHEPHERD AND OVERSEER.*
You have been turned “to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.†What a beautiful picture this is, especially for the slaves to whom Peter was writing, who were being mistreated by their earthly masters! Peter tells them that they are under the tender care of the Good Shepherd, who has the welfare of all His sheep in view. The word “Guardian†is “episkopos,†which later came to be translated, “bishop.†In fact, both shepherd and bishop are applied to church leaders as functions they must fulfill (1 Pet. 5:1-2; Acts 20:28). “Episkopos†means to watch over in the sense of guarding. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, watches over the souls of His sheep.
Does the fact that Jesus is watching everything you think, say, and do make you uncomfortable or comforted? If you’re seeking to live to righteousness, if your focus is on the cross where the Good Shepherd laid down His life for you as one of His sheep, then it ought to be a comforting thought, that He is keeping watch over your soul. That doesn’t eliminate the need for church leaders to keep watch, nor for you to guard yourself from sin. But if we seek to follow Him, we can know that He will feed, lead, and guard us as our Shepherd and Overseer.
*MEDITATION*
*Thus through Christ’s death, we are delivered both from the penalty and from the power of sin. But we must turn to Him.*

*THE WAY OF THE CROSS* (III)
_Key Bible Text:_
*Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.* (1 Peter 2:24 (GNB))
_Bible Insight:_
During the Napoleonic Wars, men were conscripted into the French army by a lottery system. If your name was drawn, you had to go off to battle. But in the rare case that you could get someone else to take your place, you were exempt.
On one occasion the authorities came to a certain man and told him that his name had been drawn. But he refused to go, saying, “I was killed two years ago.†At first they questioned his sanity, but he insisted that this was in fact the case. He claimed that the records would show that he had been conscripted two years previously and that he had been killed in action. “How can that be?†they questioned. “You are alive now.†He explained that when his name came up, a close friend said to him, “You have a large family, but I’m not married and nobody is dependent on me. I’ll take your name and address and go in your place.†The records upheld the man’s claim. The case was referred to Napoleon himself, who decided that the country had no legal claim on that man. He was free because another man had died in his place. (In “Our Daily Bread,†Fall, 1980.)
Jesus Christ bore your sin on the cross, but you must take Him up on the offer. If you turn to Him, you will be delivered from the penalty of sin which God justly must impose. That’s what Peter means when he says, “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross.â€
*MEDITATION*
*But that’s not the end of the matter. Peter goes on to show that Christ’s death not only delivers us from the penalty of sin, but also from its power:*
