*HOLDING ON*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)* (Hebrews 10:23 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The times when we live in, it is not just enough to start a good cause. Holding on till the end is the ultimate proof of success. When we come to the Knowledge of Christ, it is not a one time decision. We must continue to press on, we must continue to abide, and we must continue to follow hard after Christ. Following Christ sincerely is like moving against the tides, and only those who hold fast without wavering, will be able to survive the host of temptations and distractions without caving in.
Hebrews 10 verse 21 began by reminding us that we have a great high priest over the house of God. For which reason, verse 22 calls us to draw near with a true heart fully assured and our hearts and bodies washed with pure water. We have explained these previously. However, we are also called upon to hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering.
For anything God calls our attention to, there is a reason. Looking critically at the way the world is today, (just as the Word of God has earlier prophesied should be) if we must succeed as believers, we must apply both verse 22 of Hebrews 10 and verse 23. There are certain things to be understood of this charge in verse 23.
Amplified version of Hebrews 10:23, says *"So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word."*
As we can see, what King James version calls "Faith", Amplified calls "Hope". Using the two words interchangeably in this context does not remove the meaning but rather adds to the meaning as we shall see later.
_MEDITATION:_
*Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise.* (Hebrews 10:23 (GNB))

*KEEPING THE BODY BALANCED* (V)
_Key Bible Text:_
*By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.* (Hebrews 11:7 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
The love of God in the fear of God
Believers who try to discountenance the Old Testament or simply ignore it, are still unschooled in the word of righteousness. To truly know Jesus, you must SEARCH the scriptures. The scriptures does not only comprise of the New Testament. Hence, by referencing that IT WAS AN ACT OF FAITH that Noah moved with fear in building the Ark, the New Testament has successfully adopted and established the doctrine of the fear of God for believers in Christ Jesus.
Believers must move with fear at the word of God. God is too great and holy for us to do otherwise. The more of Him we know, the more of His love we grow and the more reverence we hold for him. Maybe, knowing a man may not strike us in this way, but knowing Christ more, should definitely strike us, with as much love for Him as fear for Him.
Just as interestingly, Noah moved with fear in preparing the ark and arrived at faith. Likewise as we move with fear in obeying the word of God, it does not only result in faith, but we arrive at more love for God. *The outcome of true fear for God, which drives us to more obedience to His word, is greater love for Him as we see the wonder we become in Him.*
This sort of fear, is what makes the Word of God the means by which God chastises His beloved children. The man whom you do not fear, even his words would be but child's play and nothing to be taken seriously. However, when we truly love God,we tremble at His words. His Word then become an instructive guide that we can't bear to ignore. Such that when it is evoked upon us, we develop a godly sorrow that works repentance.
And what other act shows love for God than when we repent at the rebuke of His word, because we fear Him?
_MEDITATION:_
*For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.* (2 Corinthians 7:10-11 (KJV)) {Please cross reference this passage with other translations of the Bible.}

*CHECKING YOUR SPIRITUAL HEALTH METER* (I)
_Key Bible Text:_
*Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?* (2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
This is how I am/know when my ‘God-meter’ is low/on red:
1. I mindlessly lie and easily become manipulative.
2. I crave more worldly content (especially songs) than godly content.
3. I crave *a lot* of junk food; a very very very unhealthy amount.
4. I become very irritable and quick to get angry.
5. The days feel too long and the nights feel too short - I do not look forward to doing anything productive. There’s no inspiration to do anything productive.
6. When I sleep, my dreams make less and less sense.
7. I become careless with my thoughts, and allow them wander to sexual places.
We all have a ‘God-meter’, and when that meter starts to run on empty, we know. It’s different things for different people, but we can all tell the clear difference between when we’re *filled* with the Spirit and when we’re hanging on to the last strand of spiritual sensitivity we have left. We know.
It’s the way a typical Nigerian knows when they’re about to come down with malaria. For some, they have injuries or boils in/around their mouths and noses. For some others, like me, it starts with a sore throat. For yet some, it starts with pain around your joints. We all know.
*MEDITATION*
*How do you know your God-meter is running low? If you identify the signs, you should be able to deal with ensuring you don't run low.*

*Warning Against Favoritism*
_Key Bible Text:_
*My brethren, show no partiality as you hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory.*
(James 2:1 (RSV))
_Bible Insight:_
Showing favoritism was as much a problem back then as it is today, even in the church. We constantly judge people based on external appearances. Our culture celebrates those who are rich and famous, it reveres those with power, worships those with success and listens to educated elites. We see this even in the church. Authority and recognition are given to people with money, status, education or even holding key positions in the government or corporate world. There is nothing wrong with success in this world, but why do we show favoritism?
These signs of favoritism show a deeper heart issue. It is an issue of glory. Favoritism reveals what we truly glorify in our hearts. We esteem power, sex, money and fame more than anything in this world. We are ready to exchange anything for what we glorify. We tend to compromise, around the values we hold high.
He was born in a manger, a feeding trough for animals. He was poor and did not have a home. He was rejected by the religious and social elites. Jesus became unattractive so we can be made attractive through His righteousness. Jesus was rejected so we can be accepted. Jesus became poor so we can become rich in Him. When the gospel takes deep root in our hearts, it rids us of any root of favoritism in our hearts.
MEDITATION:
*If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,†you do well. But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.*
(James 2:8â€-‬9 (RSV))
