*How to Be Strengthened*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you."* (1 Peter 5:10 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
We usually think that it takes strength to work, but ironically it takes work to build strength.
The man who will gain strength, will not do so by lying down all day. Try it and see.
To gain strength, you need to throw yourself into the work first in your mind. Your mind must come to a place of acceptance that the work must be done and done by no one else but you. This is the first thing that gives way to the rise of strength to get through the job and get it done.
After accepting the work, we then throw ourselves into it. We must exercise or attempt or practice doing the work. For strength to materialize, it is as you get down into the work, you discover that strength is coming to play. And the more you do the work, the more you gain strength to do the work.
Strength does not come by doing nothing or little. Strength is achieved by exercise, attempting or practicing the work. In the process, strength kicks in and in increasing measures.
Take prayer for instance. You will gain strength to pray not by waiting to see strength first, but by reluctantly or hesitantly throwing in yourself to begin the prayer process. When you have suffered the state of strengthlessness for a while, thereafter, you begin to see strength rise gradually.
_MEDITATION:_
*Work is not only a product of strength, but actually the source of strength. No man develops the strength of their muscles by lack of exercise but by the work of regular exercise.*

*Dealing With Depression* (IV)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God."* (Psalms 42:11 (Amplified))
_Bible Insight:_
4. Don't assume you know the best for yourself. Accept that God can use unpleasant situations and bad events for good in your life.
This is perhaps one angle that cannot be overemphasized if one must stay ahead of depression. Never assume you know the best for yourself. Even King Hezekiah who thought extending his lifetime will be a great thing, ended up making the worst mistake of his life, in the extra years of his life. "Who him extra years of living help?"
So don't be too sure you know what is best for you. Rather, trust God. Joseph would probably never have entered his destiny if he didn't have to suffer the hatred of his brothers, that led to his being sold as a slave. #Selah
While a slave, he could have thought God was not with him or good enough to him. Because after God allowed his brothers to hate and sell him off, he could also had accused God for allowing him to be jailed for trying to please God, by not sleeping around.
But rather than play God in his life or assumed he knew what was good or bad for him, he continued to walk with grace and gratitude, caring for others even in the prison. This eventually led to his "prison break to prime minister" story.
Those challenges are not necessarily bad, you know. Those delayed answers to prayers, may be God answering you in a bigger and better way. Don't be too sure God is not helping or answering you.
Sometimes, all you need do to send away that creepy depressing thought is to ask yourself: *"what if this place right here, this challenge I am facing right now, is exactly what God has in mind for me, knowing that it would work out my greater good?"*
Dont be a perfectionist. Don't be an ITK (I too know). God knows better. Accept that God knows all. And ask him to fill you with peace.
Philippians 4:7 (KJV) And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
_MEDITATION:_
*And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.* (Romans 8:28 (KJV))

*Dealing With Depression* (III)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Why am I discouraged? Why am I restless? I trust you! And I will praise you again because you help me, and you are my God."* (Psalms 42:11 (CEV))
_Bible Insight:_
3. Go down memory lane and remember God's goodness and praise him for every good you can remember.
Those who are thankful and grateful as a matter of habit, have won the greatest battle to perpetually beating depression.
Depression is afraid of gratitude. Depression hates gratitude. Do anything but don't be grateful and depression will like you. Do anything but don't learn how to thank God for something and thank him repeatedly for those set of things and depression will be very happy with you.
Depression is a close companion of the ungrateful. Never see lack of gratitude as a good habit. Being restless and always wanting more of one thing or another can become an invitation of depression if you don't learn to present your desires in the presence of thanksgiving for what God had already done.
Paul and Silas sang songs and praised God and prayed in the prison. Some other people could have been depressed. Depression is a response of those who choose to be ungrateful. Selah!
_MEDITATION:_
*Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.* (Philippians 4:6 (KJV))

*Dealing With Depression* (II)
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? Fix my eyes on God--soon I'll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He's my God."* (Psalms 42:11 (The Message))
_Bible Insight:_
2. Avoid or defy negative and unproductive criticism.
As long as you reasonable can, avoid an environment of negative critics.
However, You can't always avoid negative criticisms but you can defy them. You defy them by not taking them to heart. Never take a negative criticism too personally. You will only hurt yourself and possibly give room for depressive thoughts.
Some criticism are necessary as a catalyst for change. But don't dwell on negative and non constructive criticisms. They only make you bitter rather than better.
Don't surround yourself with critics who do not do anything meaningful to help your life especially in the direction they criticize. Talk is cheap. If they were to be in your shoes, they may not even do as much as you.
To help you defy negative criticism, direct your thoughts towards those who speak well of you. It is unfortunate that we focus too much on bad reviews and criticisms and too little on the positive.
Don't overwork yourself over what men think or say about you. Rather ask yourself, "what does God say/think about me?" Even if you think God is not happy with what you are doing or what is being complained about, remember that God does not hate you and does not abandon you. God wants the best for you.
_MEDITATION:_
*What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?* Romans 8:31 (KJV)

*Dealing With Depression*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."* (Psalms 42:11 (KJV))
_Bible Insight:_
Depression can be smelled like a dead rat long before you reach its exact location. In other words, before you enter into depression proper, you can discern that it is attempting to rear its ugly head.
Depression can "attack" anyone. No one is immuned to being depressed. Those who stay away from depression or who do not get depressed are either those who do not know that they just escaped depression or those who are committed to stop it in its tracks before it manifests.
How can you deal with depression?
1. Recognize that it begins from the mind. What you think or allow your minds to focus on will either bring you into depression or help you avoid it.
If you go on social media, you will see many people, usually people your age or those you are older than, seemingly achieving fantastic feats. You can be tempted to take it like a taunt that you are not an achiever. This happens when you begin to compare yourself unnecessarily and unrealistically with others.
How do you overcome this? Stop the comparison. Stop thinking that they are shaming you. Stop thinking that it is obvious you are not achieving well enough. Stop thinking that all eyes are looking at you as an underachiever. Stop those negative, accusatory, self pity thoughts.
Rather, appreciate what they are doing and simply celebrate them and let it rest. Thank God for where you are coming from, for where you are and for where he is taking you to. Learn anything you can learn. But avoid feeling left behind because life has got everyone on their own unique race and timing.
_MEDITATION:_
*For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.* (2 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV))
